If you don't win, you are then forced to either send your kid to the terrible public high schools (look at the test scores, they are awful), private school, or move to an outlying county. I know what we decided.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and say that neither the Gore's nor the vast majority of country music stars are sending their kids anywhere but private schools. I'm sure you can find an exception, but they are few and far between.
That's not the rankings I was tlaking about. America's Top Public High Schools | Newsweek Best High Schools | Newsweek.com

Hume Fogg and MLK are both top 25.

I stand corrected, 3 schools in Davidson made the rankings

Brentwood is next at 187. Then Hillsboro (in Davidson) and Ravenwood, and Franklin.

Independence in Thompson Station made the list at 1256 as well.

You can justify where you want to live in any way you want. But to characterize Nashville Public Schools as "terrible" shows that you only have a limited knowledge of the system.

If you are working at Elm Hill/Briley, that is the airport area. I would certainly encourage you looking at the Donelson/Hermitage/Old Hickory/Mt. Juliet areas of Davidson/Wilson County. Your commute would be next to nothing. Elementary schools are for the most part above-average in that area. Private schools in the area are highly rated and substantially cheaper than most of the other private schools in Davidson/Williamson County.

We are crossing our fingers for magnet schools for middle and high schools ourselves, and will consider private schools to avoid McGavock most likely.

gabbyknashville will become famous soon enoughgabbyknashville will become famous soon enough
Other factors I would personally consider when looking at some of the "fastest Growing Counties" such as Williamson and Rutherford, would be not only be the commute, but I worry about the infrastructure being able to keep up with the rapid growth. Infrastructure meaning schools, roads, police, fire, etc. I am a Nashville native, educated through college here...wouldn't live anywhere else in the world. Nashville does have its share of problems but really when it comes to schools, the problem is state wide. We always rank in the bottom five states. Just like other larger cities, Nashville has areas of less fortunate where the parent participation is lower and I think everyone will agree that parent participation in the child's education and the child's life as a whole, is what can make the difference. So, I think it is funny when Nashville is put in the same slot as the entire state. Break it down into areas and you will see the truth.

I'm just excited to get down there, look around and get a feel of the area in real life and not catching glimpses in photos and mapquest!! We obviously can't make any definite decisions on location until we know the definite location of where he would be working, either at the corporate office or if they move the tech center down to middle Tennessee...so it's still a waiting game and I'm getting antsy!! lol

Thank you all for responding. We have open minds about the whole area, but at first glance, we can only go by what we're reading about the areas and start from there. Few weeks and we'll be down for a visit!!

You need to get used to the area and then make your own personal judgements and decisions. What one person may love, another may loathe. It's all a matter of individual preferences. The Nashville area however, has a place for everyone. That's one of the reasons I love it so much!

Please be patient with yourself. It takes awhile to know what is where and what you think of it. Best of luck to you!
