Question College in Nashville

What are the higher educational options in Nashville. For a biggish city and a state capital, so far it seems to have a surprising lack of opps in that regard. There is not even a UT campus there! What gives? What am I missing other than a brain, a heart, the noive!?

Just Google Nashville and universities and you'll find out that Nashville has quite a few institutions of higher learning. Just to name a few to get you started: Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, David Lipscomb University, Tennessee State University. Additionally, you have Middle Tennessee State University, one of the largest in the state, only twenty five miles away. Plenty of opportunities.

I'm not sure where you're coming from, but Nashville has more colleges and universities than most other cities its size. More than Charlotte, Memphis, Louisville, Birmingham, Salt Lake City, Indianapolis, and others.

In addition to those mentioned by gbone, there's also Trevecca, Thomas Aquinas, and Cumberland universities. MTSU in suburban Murfreesboro is the 2nd largest university in the state. Nashville has two medical colleges and two law schools. There are also two large community colleges in the area: Nashville State and Volunteer State.

Here's a link to the TBR (TN Board of Regents) listing of colleges and universities.

Go to the wikipedia "Nashville" article, and scroll down to "education". The section on post secondary education was elaborated by yours truly a couple of years ago, I even built up a spreadsheet on statistics on the Nashville area institutions. That's where my enrollment figures were totaled for that article. I think Nashville metro surpasses Atlanta area in 4-year enrollment, but I'm not positively sure. It would be an interesting comparison, maybe I'll do a similar spreadsheet on Atlanta (my birth city). BTW I'm a Vanderbilt alum, and VU recently entered the top 15 in research funding for the US. So I don't know how one could say a lack of educational opportunity when you have numerous universities there.
