I just booked a room for a couple of nights for a short get away with the wife for the 4th of July. I have been reading up on the Big River front celebration. Any tips. Best place to park, do we need to bring a blanked or lawn chair to sit, do they have food vendors, what is the best time to get there for concerts, ect, ect????????????????

Where are you staying? If it's not too far from Riverfront, you might consider just walking. If you drive, the easiest thing to do is probably to park at the stadium across the river and walk to downtown.
Yes, to bringing either a seat cushion or one of those squaty lawn chairs (tall ones are not allowed). There are food vendors, the typical concession type stuff. One thing, if you bring anything with you it must be in a clear container. It's hard to say when the best time to go is; they sort of schedule the bigger name acts in with the lesser known ones. Have fun. It could be very hot that day; so plan according. |

I may have misspoke. I was going by memory from a couple if years ago. They say the concerts start at 3:00 pm, with the main show at 7:00 pm; however, if I remember correctly there were some acts on before that (around noon).

An alternative, parking wise, for me has always been any of the state lots on the north side of the Capitol. It's free and within easy walking distance. There won't be a problem knowing where to go. Just follow the people. Walking there at night isn't always a good idea, but this night will be completely okay. You won't be alone.

There are places to park nearby, but unless you get there early it's nearly impossible to find a place (at least one where you don't have to pay an arm and a leg to park there).
I hope you enjoy your visit. |

Riverfront Park is incredibly crowded for the Fourth. I've never gotten there early enough to find a patch of ground to sit on, so I ended up standing shoulder to shoulder with other hot, sweaty people. I think it would be fun if you had a place to sit, but I don't know how early you have to be there. Good luck.
