Cool find. I have always wondered why Nashville got rid of the Union Station on Broadway? They turned it into a hotel. A hotel! What were they thinking? I don't know, maybe it is just wishful thinking but I do not see the logic of doing something like that when people should use their heads and think clearly before turning a rail station into a hotel... blasphemy I tell you!

most every city in the US once had streetcars. (State Index) I just think it's so funny that "light rail" is the "newfangled" thing, when in some places it's basically the same as the old streetcars.

As far as Union Station... I think part of it burned down a few years ago? Not sure what part. I don't know what that has to do with why they turned it into a hotel, but I just remembered that tidbit.

anyone there really think of Nashville as a polluted place? Again, according to the charts, they are one of the least green cities, with reams of heavy particulates belching all over the metro.....Louisville ranks just below them, but I can see that. Going over the Ohio River bridge, you see one humungous plume of toxic smoke......but nashville being ranked right up there is a bit rich for me...

What do YOU folks think of this?

I can buy it - nashville produces it's own by 65 -ir circles the city - they say every truck in america eventually drives thru Nash! Proximity to Ohio Valley - air moves ya know....it's in a valley so it's trapped..and the coal plants, and TVA weigh in - yeah..plus the weather and the spores are pretty bad...it's also one of the worst places for allergies and asthma as is Knoxville which was number one at one time...

Default Source?

Although I don't necessarily disagree with anything that's been written above, I was wondering if you could link to the source of this claim? I've looked at several lists of "most polluted cities" and never seen Nashville on any of them. See, e.g., City Mayors: The most polluted US cities, or also, http://www.stateoftheair.org/2008/key-findings/SOTA08_Table2.pdf (broken link). These studies come up with different lists based on measuring "polluted" in slightly different ways, but there's no mention of Nashville on any of them.

Default well....

I have only been down here for 8 months, but when my fiance was offered to be relocated by his company to Antioch, we checked out everything very carefully. It turns out the #1 reason his company moved to Tennessee, thus giving him the option to also relocate to here was because his company realized that cost wise Tennessee made the most sense. All of the shipping hubs are located here....FED X, UPS, and DHL. On top of this just about all companies locate their main distribution centers around here as well. What does this mean? All of the diesel trucks/tractor trailers travel through this area. This is why your traffic is so horrible and only getting worst, plus your pollution is going out of control. I am really shocked that more people living in Tennessee haven't posted this yet. My fiance found a lot of information about this, plus his company moving to Antioch backed it up further.
