Check out the celebration in downtown Nashville at Riverfront Park on the 4th. It's pretty awesome and is supposed to be the third largest display in the USA. Of course, there will be lots of other people there enjoying it as well, so you may want to get there pretty early.
Here is a link to several 4th of July celebrations across Tennessee:

The fireowrk show in downtown Nashville is the first firework work show I have gone to that truly entertained and impressed me. I would encourage anyone who can go, to go. It really is impressive. Just be prepared for the large crowds and traffic after the show. The first time I went, I got stuck in garage for an hour. After that, we just planned on hanging out downtown for a while after the show.

Hanging out downtown after the show is probably a good option to avoid all the traffic leaving the area. If your kids are with you though, it's probably not a very good idea since most of the action is at the bars.

We sit in the field behind our house and watch the Franklin fireworks show...it's done near Franklin High, but you can see the show from the Factory or Liberty Elementary...among other places...it's great!

Are you referring to downtown Franklin or downtown Nashville? We've been referring to both here.

Downtown Nashville was what I was talking about for parking.

There are several parking lots, but in order to get a good spot, you need to leave as early as possible. There's a couple of good ones behind the Sommet center, right across from the Country Music Hall of Fame and it is a short walk to Riverfront from there. Plan on paying around $10 to park just about anywhere downtown though.

Thanks to everybody for all the information. We have decided to stay downtown for the fireworks show at The Hermitage and avoid the traffic situation. We are really looking forward to the show....we hear it is awesome! I'm just loving living here!! :-)
