I moved to Tennessee in 2001. I lived in Madison in 2001. I moved to Inglewood in 2002 and lived there until 2004 and I moved back to Florida for about 8 months ( returned after Hurricane Charlie ) Lived in Madison for about 6 months and then moved to Hendersonville where I stay now for the time being.

Yep, know all about the insurance companies, most are rip offs.

I lived in Houston for awhile when I was a kid and loved it. I've been back several times on vacation. My wife is also from New Orleans and we'll be closer to her family. Houston actually has a lesser crime rate then Nashville from what I've read recently. I'm not 100% sure but unlike alot of Tennessee natives, I don't mind illegals and while the police may be crooked in Texas too, I've only seen the amount of crooked stuff that goes on in Tennessee topped by one state, that would be Louisiana. Just look at all the stuff that goes on in Memphis...

Cool...btw, that house that you were working on Eastland and 16th....that's one of the nicer areas over here now (on the fring of Lockland Springs near Eastland Neighbors)...thanks for your small part in helping restore East Nashville to it's former glory...the Payless shoe store is now a Calypso Cafe...there is plenty of crime on Gallatin road...we think it's probably 4 or 5 people who are probably responsible for all or most of the incidents lately and I have faith the East Precinct will eventually catch them. You should re-visit East Nashville before you move....things have changed a lot since 2000/2001. A schoolteacher friend of my fiance and her husband moved to Houston last year and they were held up at gunpoint while walking in a really nice neighborhood where they live there. It happens everywhere especially near the downtown core. I guess the price you pay for convience.

As a young person, speaking from personal experience, I definitely see that the "American Dream" is changing. Gas prices and the state of the economy may speed up the process but I think the interest in having a different lifestyle than our parents was already present. I think my generation is probably the first to have their parents ravaged by debt and living paycheck to paycheck to have their McMansions and a lot of people I know just don't value those things, but of course there will always be those that do.

I think another key factor as taboo as it may be is racism. As we become a more multicultural society people in general become more educated and more accepting of those that are different than themselves and that alone makes it easier for them to move into a neighborhood where they are the minority so we don't think twice about living downtown in a historically black neighborhood or whatever. It's not always about making a quick buck sometimes you just have to "get in where you fit in" wherever that may be, but for me it's not a McMansion in Brentwood I'll take my TINY house in East Nashville any day.

I think racism plays a part but moreso is the crime factor. Obviously crime happens everywhere but you're more likley to be murdered in East Nashville or somewhere along Lafayette street then you are on Concord Rd. in Brentwood just as an example.

I've been down in that area alot in the past few months. I've noticed the highrise apartment complexes that are going up along Main St. Personally I've often wondered " why ? " I guess everyone has diffrent tastes, esp. about where they want to live or where they want to live. Example, I got tired of the crime and traffic in Nashville so I moved to Hendersonville and love it out here.

As far as Houston goes, I wouldn't dream of living in Harris County.
