Default I need a lawn!

Can anyone recommend someone to me that airates and seeds for lawns. I currently have a bunch of weeds and crab grass and I hate it, but have no clue about seeding. In Florida you bought sod. Here you seed. Can I have this done now or do I have to wait until fall? What does this cost on average? Help! I live in the boro. Thanks!

It's best to wait until the fall or early spring unless you're planning on watering throughout the summer.

You spray for crabgrass in very early spring, or late winter before it has a chance to come up.

Be careful about using some of the big national companies that advertise a lot. They promise a lot, and don't do that much for what they charge.

Thanks Alleycat. So I guess I have to go all summer mowing weeds! Gross! I don't want to put weed killer down now because my lot will be bald! LOL! I didn't want to call a large company for that reason, but was hoping I could get a recommendation. Did I mention I have a pretty large variety of weeds. Some look like clovers and some dandelions too! I had purple flowers growing that were kinda pretty, but they haven't come back. I also had onions. My friend joked about coming over to pick from my yard for her salad.

It's sounds like your yard was never seeded, or only barely seeded.

Here's one thing you might think about doing so that you don't just hate the yard. Create a small area near a deck or patio or someplace you sit outside and seed it (maybe hand aerate it). Keep it well watered and also apply some broadleaf weed killer. That's doable and at least you'd have a little yard that you could enjoy . . . as you mow the weeds in the rest of the yard. Then you can do the whole yard come fall.

Don't get me wrong Alleycat, I love my back deck and I sit out there everyday, but I think it's more embarrassing then anything to have no lawn. I see other lawns in my neighborhood that look so beautiful and I wish I had that as well. I may just try your idea. I did buy a big bag of kentucky blue. I just didn't have the tools to airate the whole yard. I think you're right too. It was never done or just barely done by the builder and the previous owner never did anything more with it.

I was told to use tall fescue as it holds up better to the summer heat. We have the same problem as you; our lawn is mostly weeds. We did buy an aerator to put on our mower and then put down lots of seed this spring. In the fall we will do it again. Our next step is to put weed killer down late winter. At this point, we have some grass, but at least the weeds make it look green for now. I would say just keep mowing the weeds. I'm sure your neighbors realize what you are dealing with as you just moved into the house.

Everyone save yourselves time and lots of money and just tough it out and plant your seed in the fall. Experience has taught me many things, and this is one of the biggest.

It's the only way to go isn't it? I just have to sit this summer out as far as how my yard looks. UGH! I have really nice landscaping and an ugly lawn!
