There are some REALLY nice houses out there with and without land... for VERY affordable prices. You get more for your money and the property tax is very reasonable. THere is a walmart and many restaurants, Kroger etc...and you can still commute to Frankin/Nashville.
Hope this helps all the TN lookers. |

Yeah, with gas prices... ( unless you're wealthy and or retired ) If you're new to Tennessee and are looking to work or have a career you may want to live quite a bit closer...
I know people that live in Spring Hill and Columbia that won't even drive to Nashville, they just sooner work at Subway for $6/hr then buy tons of gas to work in Nashville.. |

I spent a day in Lewisburg looking at homes last year. Lewisburg is a very nice town. Just a word of warning about the realtors out there.
I talked with several realtors before I made the 2+ hour drive there to get specific information on the homes so that I wouldn't be wasting my time, and nothing was as they said it was. One had water damage throughout the entire house, and the realtor had told me on the phone that it was in great condition. Another "great condition" house had sections of the roof missing, kitchen cabinets torn off, missing doors, and missing sections of flooring. There was only one house out of all those I looked at in my price range that came close to being in "great" condition. I was also concerned about businesses close to the homes, and I was assured by the realtors that the homes I was interested in were nowhere near commercial businesses. But when I got there, the house I had been most interested in was right next door to a noisy and busy combination race car repair shop and paint and body shop. The next house had a semi truck repair shop directly across the street. I asked about zoning, and was told it was not zoned commercial but that the zoning board lets people get away with having businesses there "depending on who you are". Kind of like my corrupt little town. You can break all kinds of zoning laws if you know the right people. Also you have to really question them hard about the septic. The realtors were telling me things like "This is a great 4 bedroom house", but when I got there I found that the septic was only approved for 1 bedroom! Just about every 3-4 bedroom house I looked at had septic approved for only 1 or 2 bedrooms. That could turn into a nightmare if you ever want to resell the house. The realtors did not give this information voluntarily either. I had to really question them hard about every little thing and it was like pulling teeth to get honest answers. A friend of mine moved there a few months ago, and she said she ran into the same problems with realtors. It's definitely not an area to buy via long distance just going on what a realtor says, like I've seen some people do. Oh, and the drive to Nashville from there was a nightmare the day I went. You do not want to make that drive during rush hour! Other than that, if you check out the house, septic, and neighborhood really carefully and not rely on a realtor to be honest with you, and you don't have to commute to Nashville, it really did seem like a great little town! |

Lewisburg=Creepy
Ladies Restroom for example. Just a weird vibe there in the downtown/square area. Marshall County High School. I was traumatized there more than once (as a visitor) Bad weather patterns, too. Subject to severe storms and twisters. |

Do you know anything about the school district or how safe it is to live in Lewisburg? I am a disabled single African American mother and am considering Lewisburg as a viable prospect for relocation. My son is only 18 months and I want to be certain the area is safe for him to grow up in and that there is little to no racism. As such I am seeking a diverse, educated community that has plenty to offer in the way of atheletics, education, and entertainment. With the price of gas, I'm hoping to not have to drive out of the community to find such offerings.
I'd appreciate any input. Honey |
