Steve, I'm not perfect and I'm not judging. Judging involves forming an opinion. The responders to the OP told her to lie about her pets(that's a fact). Last I heard, lying was not an acceptable standard of human behavior. Just stating facts, not an opinion.

To me it is an acceptable standard of behavior when your only option is to get rid of two of your animals. For us animal lovers, they are like children. They ARE family members and are more human than most humans. I'd rather lie than get rid of a family member. If you are an animal lover with pets Gbone, you will understand that.

For $900 a month, it's possible you can rent a house - they may be more lenient with the pets, especially being small. I know my complex requires you put down a pet deposit and from what I heard it was per animal, which can be costly.

It's beside the point but I can't see paying 900 a month for something you'll never own.Our farm payment is 300 a month less on a 15 year note. I guess thats the difference in living in a costly area, or a few miles away from all the living costs.

It sounds like they are only going to be in town temporarily, as her husband is to be a visiting professor to MTSU. In that case, renting would be optimal.
Owning is always best, but is not always appropriate. If you are new to town, you may wish to rent, see the community a bit, then buy a house in the area you prefer. I know in my situation, I don't want to own a home until my boyfriend and I are married or close to our wedding date.

I totally agree Steve! Great post! I would never part with any of my furry children!
Tried to rep you, but it said I had to spread it around!

I'm in the same boat...3 pets and looking for a place in Nashville. I'll let you know if I see anything. Basically, we have 3 choices: a. find a place that will take 3 (if that's possible); b. lie; c. get rid of one (and I know I can't do this one).
