Young family moving to Nashville...
Married couple with 2 year old headed to Nashville... Seeking hip Urban neighborhood with renovated historic homes.... That is safe.... Any advice on areas like this?... Trying to stay under 250K for 3 bedroom... We realize the public schools aren't the best... Most importantly we want an area where we feel safe... Any words on Inglewood?... All advice and comments welcome... Thanks!

Possibly about the Hillsboro Village area (or one of the nearby neighborhoods), or Edgehill. There's a part of East Nashville around Fatherland Street where many of the homes have been renovated. You'd have to do a little more research into the safety of the area to see if it meets your criteria.

Sylvan Park! Its in between west end and Charlotte park, running off of Murphy Road. It has rennovated victorian homes, neighborhood with restaraunts, stores, and an organic grocery store, dogwood tree lined roads. I love this neighborhood. Downside, the restaraunts in the neighborhoods are pricey, but you do save on gas.
If you want to head East, look for Historic east Nashville(or 5 points). It is a great, hip neighborhood with a lot of bars and and some boutiques and restaurants. Drive by and make sure you are in the right neighborhood, you don't want to get stuck in the wrong one!
I'm not sure about your price range. It might be hard to find a three bedroom. I'm not too sure about Inglewood... I've heard both good and bath about it.
As far as public schools, I wouldn't worry about it until your kid gets into middle school, most of the Elementary schools are fine.
Good luck!

I think you're asking for a little much with your budget.

Finding a hip urban place to live in nashville for under 250K is going to be close to impossible. You will find something that MIGHT be in your budget, but its going to be a real fixer upper or its going to be in a really bad area. As far as White House goes...HA. WH is not even SUBurban...its rural..and its far away from everything. try looking at some locations online, just type in some keywords that you are looking for...you might get luckey.

I agree with jenntenn. See this post: http://www.city-data.com/forum/nashv...le-thread.html. It sounds like we're looking for basically the same thing as you (not sure what sq. ft. you need, but we're looking at 3-beds), and I assumed we had a very generous budget in the $300-$400k range. Turns out that was wrong, and it's hard to find many places like you describe even in that price range. I would think at $250k it would be nearly impossible.

East Nashville might be the right fit for you based on what you've described so far. Inglewood is one of those neighborhoods in East Nashville that is growing in popularity. It's not within walking distance from the center of town (5 points) like Lockeland Springs is, but there are definitely some new things coming in over that way. One of my favorite streets in the Inglewood area is Brush Hill. It has this house set back off the street with an old mill right in front of the house close to the street. It is awesome. You will find a few homes in Lockeland Springs that are available in that price range, but that subdivision is nearly priced outside of that range. Try both of those neighborhoods. Good luck!

What about Berry Hill? That's probably the only neighborhood you'll find in your price range that is trendy, urban, and safe.
I'm still not big on East Nashville or Inglewood. I know it's made progress in recent years, but I know too many people who bought there to be close to everything and to get in on the next big "hot spot" and have regretted it. Car break-ins, panhandlers, drug dealing, etc. I know some people will tell you that certain streets and blocks are safe and you just have to know where to look, but in my opinion you aren't safe if you live on a "nice" street that is two blocks away from a row of crack houses.
