Your thoughts on Fairview, TN please :)
A friend of mine owns two houses in Fairview. He is looking to unload one. The house he is looking to sell is going for $269K. But he is willing to cut us a big break just to let go of it. He mentioned that Fairview is one of the wealthier towns in TN? Also, we have young kids, and he mentioned that the schools are great there. The only thing that concerns me a little is that he said Fairview is not really close to any shopping centers or restaurants. Any thoughts on this? Also, where would the nearest synogogue be? THANKS!!

I don't think Fairview is one of the wealthiest cities, but it is located in the wealthiest COUNTY in Tennessee (Williamson). And Williamson Co's school system is typically one of the best in the state. However, I'm not sure about how the schools are out in Fairview.
Williamson County is a very popular place to live and is attracting lots of interest. Cities like Fairview were just small farming communities 10-15 years ago, and are now getting lots of new residents because of its location in Williamson County.
If memory serves, Fairview is about 20 minutes away from Cool Springs...which is a huge moderate to upscale retail area spanning 2 interstate exits, so you're not too far away from civilization.

How good a friend is this? If he's telling you Fairview is one of the wealthiest towns in Tennessee, he's misleading you.
I believe the nearest synogogue would either be one of those in west Nashville (the closest to Fairview being The Temple on Harding Road), or the one in Brentwood.
I suggest spending some time in Fairview and getting a feel for the area before deciding. It might be right for you, or it could very well not be. My own opinion of Fairview is somewhat on the negative side.

The feeling I always get from everyone is that Fairview is the dumpy part of Williamson County.

Ok your friend is not a very good friend. Thats way to much to pay in fairview unless its huge with lots of land, and even then you could not convience me.. I live in Franklin which is also in Williamson county which i believe is up to number 8 for richest counties fairview being what is hurting us. its in the middle of nowhere (although i do know one family that is comfortable( finances) that lives there so they can have a bigger house) i donno where a synagoge is but i know we must have one somewhere because we have a thrift store run by a jewish charity in franklin. I only payed 157k for my house in franklin 5 years ago, and now the housing market is so bad houses are going back down. Fairview has really felt the housing crunch. i reccommend moving to franklin, i'm sure you can get a foreclosed on home cheap. oh and fairview schools, when i was in 10th grade, a teacher from fairview transferred to my school, and told us we needed a crayon box for english ( i was only in her class a day) other then that experience, my education was pretty good. i had no problem transitioning from the chicago area. hope its helpful.

20 minutes to Cool Springs? It took me 15 minutes to go from Fairview into Bellvue. I think 20 minutes is a stretch ....
It's pretty rural out there. There is a Food Lion, Tractor Supply and a McDonald's. Also a Subway.

I moved to Fairview from the Boston/RI area 2 years ago... it is slowly growing on me. It was a huge transition after living in the city for 3 years prior. I did appreciate the slow paced "country" life, but then there were other days where I resented it. The days where it took me 40 minutes to get to Cool Springs .... no not 20... 40. lol. I can get to the center of Franklin in about 20-25. They are actually in the process of building a new shopping center and restaurants in the center of Fairview. I do predict that within the next 10 years, Fairview will become a totally different town. It is the only town left in Williamson co to develop. Oh... and as far as $269k for the house, there are some nice developments where you could get your value for $269k, but the average home in the area is probably more like $140k.
