Visiting Nashville, need help
My wife and I will be visiting Nashville for about 2-3 days in August. We don't have much time but don't want to miss anything fun. I know that 2-3 days is really short and that's why I am relying on you folks to assist us....please!
Any recommendations, sights, food, entertainment, etc.?
Thanks in advance.
Chad

What kind of things are you interested it? Music? Nature? History? Kid's stuff?
One of the typical places to go in Nashville is downtown near Riverfront Park and along Second Avenue and Broadway.
By the way, I would have suggested some other month to visit, but I know that sometimes people don't have any other choice. August is often the hottest month of the year here.

Alleycat,
We do have two young boys but this trip is just my wife and I. We currently live in California and have often thought about leaving for somewhere in the South. We are big fans of Country Music and really enjoy live music and good food. Even though this trip will be really short, I am wanting to see the real Nashville in it's everyday life...the real people of Nashville I guess you might say. I don't know how else to explain that. Small town fair maybe?
I am well aware of the heat, we have a bunch of it here too. We don't have the humidity and that's why we chose August...kinda wanted to see the worst of it I guess.
Thanks for your help!
Chad

In that case, visit the downtown area. The Country Music Hall of Fame is nearby and worth a visit, as well as the old Ryman Auditorium, and all sorts of honky-tonk types places and trendy clubs down around the lower Broad area. It might also be worth a visit to The Bluebird Cafe (which was featured in the movie A Thing Called Love with Rivers Phoenix).
For a taste of everyday life, I might suggest a visit and stroll around the downtown area of nearby Franklin; a visit to the Bicentennial Mall and Farmer's Market (they're next door to one another); eat at Monels, Swett's, or the Germantown Cafe; maybe a visit to Priest or Old Hickory Lake; a visit to Centennial Park near Vanderbilt University; a visit to either Opry Mills, Green Hills or Cool Spring Mall just to see what kind of shopping is available; a drive down the Natchez Trace Parkway (beautiful in the spring and fall); a walking tour of downtown; a visit to the Adventure Science Center or the Frist Center to see what activities are available for kids; a drive through Belle Meade to see how the "other half" lives; a visit to some of the smaller towns around Nashville such as Hendersonville or Mt. Juliet; a visit to some of the nicer or unique neighborhoods in Nashville such as Hillsboro Village, Old Hickory, Green Hills, East Nashville . . . or even Bellevue (where I live ;-).

Are any of the downtown music bars (don't know what else to call them) better than the others? We like all types of Country but prefer the rowdy side if ya know what I mean.
Our trip is a month away and I can't wait. Again, I know time is short but I don't want to miss anything.
I want to hear about anything and everything folks, keep it up.
Thanks again.

Chad - They are called "honkeytonks". Be sure to go to Tootsie's Orchid Lounge and Printer's Alley. The first time I saw Printer's Alley at night it blew me away! It's basically an alley lined with honkeytonks. Both are downtown and easy to find.
