The reason I asked is because some dealers are not out of line price-wise for doing a brake job. I'm don't know anything about the Lexus dealers here however.

A brake job is not that complicated. You just need to find an honest shop. If you live out on the west side of town, the Firestone place on Charlotte near the new Costco/Best Buys is okay, but I don't recommend the Firestone on Broadway.

Thanks. We took our old car to a place on Charlotte near the 46th Avenue exit a couple of years ago. We were told we needed new transfer case, new transmission and new steering column. We took it to another mechanic for a second opinion; he tightened some belts, and we never had issues again. It's just tough - not knowing whom you can and cannot trust.

Unless you have a trusted dealer or a trusted mechanic, I'd recommend you just go to a Midas.

Have you been to one that you trust? Our neighbor told us he was really taken advantage of, and had shoddy work done at a Midas on Charlotte Pike.

Midas usually does good work (at least for mufflers), but they are high.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully we'll have a good experience, and I'll let you know in the (unfortunate) event anyone else needs it.

GirlfromTN, to clarify, I've never been to a Midas in TN at all, but I've been to them in several other states, and would agree with alleycat that they probably aren't the cheapest option, but tend to do good work without ripping you off. Of course, there may be exceptions.
