Commute from Brentwood to Goodlettsville- is this move worth it?!?!
Hi! My husband is being offered a great position and career advancement in Goodlettsville. We've got three kids ages 1, 3, and 5. I'm a former teacher, so schools are our top priority in a move. I've researched that Brentwood/Franklin are the best public schools. My question is: How long would the commute REALLY be from Brentwood(closer than Franklin from what I gather) to Goodlettsville? My husband has heard over an hour and this concerns him. We can look in the 350-400 range for a home. Any advice? We've got to make a quick decision. THANK YOU!

I can't tell you how far the commute would be but I would consider Sumner County, which also has great schools.

An hour commute is likely from Brentwood to Goodlettesville if he is traveling during peak traffic times. I'd suggest looking in Hendersonville which has good schools and lots of good housing choices in your price range.

As everyone has mentioned, many people have good things to say about Sumner County schools. Hendersonville will be a quick commute for your husband, and you'll be able to find a nice house there in your price range. It is very difficult to find too many options in Brentwood under $400,000. There are a few, but they are either small or are in need of updating. You'll get a lot more house for the money in Hendersonville. I have a client that looked both in Brentwood and Hendersonville just recently and we were able to find them a great deal in Hendersonville that they are very pleased.

The good news is from Brentwood to Goodlettsville would be against the bumper to bumper traffic once he got through downtown Nashville in the mornings...the interstate going north in the morniings from Briley Pkwy toward Hendersonville is free flowing in the mornings (usually). The same would be at the end of the day, with him going against traffic...I run to the south to the airport often around 5 pm and I65 north may be sitting still while I whiz right past.
With all that said, for what it's worth...at the end of the day you will have a worn out car, a worn out wallet from the price of gas, and a worn out husband for making the trip that will be at least an hour two times a day. Why not get a high-end house in Hendersonville, try the Sumner County schools? (The schools are good...I am a Sumner County graduate so I speak from experience.) It only makes sense that you will get to see your husband more hours a day from less travel, and he might be a little less stressed too.

How about live in Goodletsville and send your kids to private school?

Just a personal opinion . . . if I were moving to the area, I wouldn't move to Brentwood or Franklin if I knew I was going to be working in Goodlettesville (not if I thought it was going to be a long-term position). There are too many other options to make the commute worthwhile to my way of thinking. Now, if you visit either Franklin or Brentwood and just absolutely love the area more than some of the nicer areas to the north (such as Hendersonville), then it might be worth considering.

I used to commute the other direction from Gville to Brentwood. Like TNNative said, half of the trip is with traffic, the other half is pretty much free of traffic. I'd say the commute is closer to 45 minutes on average than an hour. Obviously, some days are better than others due to traffic, but I wouldn't think an hour would be the norm.

He would spend way too much time on the Interstate.
Look at homes in the Hendersonville area, and scratch Brentwood & Franklin off of the list.
Your husband will thank you.

Public schools in Hendersonville are excellent. It's a lovely, safe town with all kinds of new upscale development. If you live in Hendersonville, the commute to work in Goodlettsville will only be about 15 minutes. I say move to Hendersonville.
