Question Afro-European man moving to Nashville

Hello there.
I'm Afro-European male living in the US looking to move to Nashville. I'm in my early 30's and used to living in busier, well diverse neighborhoods. I would love to live as close to the city as possible. I'm very much interested in living in an area where other professionals live, close to the city, close to the malls and well diversed.

I would GREATLY appreciate if you would help me with any information you may have. Thanks for your kindness.

Thanks.

welcome and best of luck with the move! Definately check out the Hillsboro village area, Belmont and 12 south areas (these are close to hillsboro village), and the 5 points area in east Nashville. These will cost more than the average area but they're not as expensive as far-flung Brentwood and parts of franklin. or if you're coming from an expensive state/country, they won't seem expensive either. I have a buddy who rents a house near hillsboro village for 900/month. If you're looking to buy then I think they range from the 300's to the 900's. H.V., Belmont, and 12 south areas are right smack between downtown (5 minute drive with traffic) and the mall at green hills (10 minutes with traffic) - the best mall in all of Nashville IMO (because it has the apple store-ha!). Plus they're incredibly dervisified and have an urban college (think Boston) vibe.

Default Midtown

I like the Midtown area. This is the area between Downtown Nashville and Vanderbilt. You can walk to restaurants, shops and colleges like Vanderbilt, Belmont, Peabody, Lipscomb, etc. It depends on your budget.

I second that. If you're looking for urban and diverse, yet safe and upscale, Midtown is probably your best bet, followed by Hillsboro Village.

Wink I Third That!

Pimpy, you're right about Hillsboro Village. I also like the 12th Ave., Belmont Area. Might be a thought!

Five Points in East Nashville is about 2 kilometers or less from downtown and composed of several locally owned restaurants/bars and shops. Included are -

Cafe Margot
Marche
3 Crow Bar
Beyond The Edge
Red Door East
The Alley Cat (Tex Mex Bar/Restaurant)
The Turnip Truck (Health Food)
Rumors East Wine & Art Bar
Art & Invention
Z's Deli
The 5 Spot (Music Venue)
The Lipstick Lounge
Mad Donnas
The Hip Zipper (vintage clothing)
Woodland Wine Merchant
Bongo Java East (Coffee)
Battered and Fried (Boston Style Seafood)/Wave Sushi Bar
The Groove (Vinyl/CD Music Store)
I Dream of Weenie (Hot Dog Vendor)
Pizza Real

And a few others I can't think of right now.

You can do a Google Search for these if your interested. You can also do a search for "Tomato Art Fest". This is a festival held there every summer.

It's considered the East End/Lockland Springs area. There's a really diverse crowd that frequents this area, so if you don't fit in here, you wouldn't fit in anywhere in Nashville. A lot of non native Nashvillians live near this area.

The thing about the area that some people can't get past is that you have to go through a fairly large area of Public Housing (Cayce Homes) to get to Five Points - East Nashville. But like a lot of people say, if you aren't into anything shady yourself, then chances of you being a crime victim falls way down. You can do a search on this website for "East Nashville" to hear the pro's and cons.

There is not a lot of rental property (apartment wise) in the area now, but there are some new condos for sale (37206, and East End Condos) and houses for rent or sale. Depends on your budget and if you want to buy or rent.
