That's true of Madison, as well. Crime isn't everywhere here, but is concentrated in a few areas. Sadly, though, some people who get their info second hand, or who only know one or two neighborhoods get a skewed picture of the community.
I feel safe in most areas of Davidson County, but there are a few rural towns that creep me out

I agree with you and that's basically what it boils down too. A few isolated areas where things do happen make the numbers jump for the whole town, but it isn't necessarily all bad.

Exactly, and that is what "trouble spots" like Madison and Antioch do for Nashville/Davidson County as a whole.

I lived in Madison while I attended TSU, I honestly felt safer over on Jefferson Street compared to Madison. I lived there for several years and was all over the damn city.
The only area I would even come close to saying was safe is the areas West of Gallatin Rd. and East of I-65 between Due West and MAYBE Rivergate Pkwy.
Everything else is pretty much crime filled crap. Although, I would say the area down Neelys Bend before it dead ends is halfway nice.
Gallatin Rd. areas between Rivergate and Inglewood are horrible.

What you've mentioned as better areas makes up a big chunk of Madison, and is very similar to what I pointed out in my first post in this thread. Don't forget the area around Cedar Hill, which is close to my neighborhood.

Cedar Hill Park was a nightmare when I lived down in Madison. There were cops there everynight trying to breakup drug deals and trying to stop teens from having sex on the picnic tables.
One night, My girl and I were at the park and some suspicious van pulled up and parked ( we were the only ones there as it was 9pm ) When we walked to our car we could see him molesting himself in his van.
Another night, a truck full of teens drove by egging everyones cars which REALLY pissed people off.
I'll admit that there are a few pockets of Madison that are okay, but the area as a whole sucks. Our company rebuilt the exterior of an apartment building over by Madison Park named Heatherwood. THAT was a pretty rough neighborhood.
I remember when I first moved to Madison from Florida I started working at the K-Mart down by Briley, I would walk up Old Hickory ( lived down by Rollins Market ) and catch the bus at Gallatin Rd. and ride it to work and back everyday.
Today, I can't believe I walked that street everyday and was never robbed, mugged, or murdered.

The fact that you weren't robbed, mugged, or murdered should tell you something.
Cedar Hill Park is safe. Every time I go there it's full of families, old folks, and lots of people walking.
TNRyan23, Haven't we been through this discussion before, and not that long ago? I thought we'd come to a kind of understanding about where you lived and where I live, and how they're very different kinds of neighborhoods.
(And then the thread was locked by the moderators, thank goodness.)

City-data is a non-ending argument, I thought you knew.
I thought I posted the some 30-40 Tennessean articles in the past year and a half of people being robbed or killed in Madison and don't remember getting a reply to that one...
I know the guy that owns the Grand Slam store and I know the guy that owns the Shell across the corner. BOTH of them have installed the plastic rooms in their stores due to the crime. The poor guy at Grand Slam had a gun shoved in his ribs as he went to go home one night and the poor guy at Shell has been robbed 4 times by the same guy and the police keep letting him go, The guy breaks windows ALL the time.

I replied to that post, pointing out that nearly every crime was in the commercial corridor -- which is true of most cities, and I don't know anyone who'd claim a good stretch of Gallatin Pike isn't rough after dark -- and that the murders outside of that area were domestic violence (not to minimize them, but to point out that they weren't random or motivated by some other crime. Domestic violence happens even in the "best" neighborhoods.).
And it wasn't 30-40 articles, unless I'm thinking of the wrong post.
And as far as the the non-ending argument, I'd just like to have a different one for a change...
I'm really tired of people dismissing all of Madison because of Gallatin Pike.
And what's with thinking Rivergate is so dangerous? The place is always packed with cars, so apparently a lot of people are fine with shopping there. I don't care for it because the traffic's bad, and it's hard to get around without driving everywhere. Horrible for pedestrians, and poorly designed for getting from Point A to Point B with any kind of transportation.

Rivergate Mall is in Madison and Madison is one of the largest suburbs of Nashville, of course people will go there.
I don't go to Rivergate Mall because of the Security guard that was shot and killed a few years ago and because of the guy that shot at people in the mall a few months ago. That and the fact that Rivergate Mall is very run down these days and cannot compete with Opry Mills or Cool Springs. These days I find that I don't even go to malls anymore and will usually either shop in the new Hendersonville shopping area or the one in Mt. Juliet. I can thank Hendersonville Police everyday for not allowing Madison to pretrude into Sumner County ( crime wise ) Maybe if Madison had their own police force instead of the hapless Metro Police, they'd have ALOT less crime.
Don't get me started on Hunters Lane Highschool.
