As for the necessity of going to a school with high ratings: I went to no-name, semi-rural public elementary/high schools in another state, then to a small public college, yet ended up with a free ride + stipend to grad school at Vandy.

Only if you prefer to be in a Middle Class neighborhood. Franklin/Brentwood are considered Upper Class neighbordhoods, and Murfreesboro is Middle Class.[/quote]
Murfreesboro has seen many changes and now Murfreesboro has neighborhoods, especially those being constructed off Rucker Lane, that are considered Upper Class. Homes in those neighborhoods are "starting" in th 400's. The Boro sure is growing!

We choose to associate with like-minded non-snobbish folk and don't worry about trying to get the newest Bimmer because our neighbor has a snazzy new Benz.

But the other advantages you presented are present in, not all, but many other Tennessee counties.

What I don't understand is why you take every opportunity to bash and put down everything about Williamson County and you've probably never lived nor worked in Williamson County. Not only that, you don't provide any factual data to try and support your opinions. Many people come on this thread to find out real information about the Nashville area from people who are knowledgeable about the area. You appear to be knowledgeable about Rutherford County and I'm sure many people appreciate what you have to offer on Rutherford County. You come across as less knowledgeable about Williamson County based on unfounded "opinions" and your refusal to provide any facts to back up your "opinions". And by the way, unless and until you can provide facts to back up your "opinions", your opinions may be yours, but they are mostly wrong when it comes to your comments on Williamson County. I'm fairly sure these "opinions" of yours about Williamson County do little to help people requesting information.
In spite of your negativity against Williamson County, its interesting that Williamson County is considered one of the most desirable counties to live in the United States. Nissan Motor Company chose Williamson County for their corporate headquarters primarily for two reasons, one being financial and the other being the high quality of living for their employees. I have personally met with Nissan Representatives and they stated that based on their research and experience that Williamson County had the most to offer from a quality of family living perspective than any other county they studied. Some of the criteria they included was schools, family life, recreation, shopping, geographic diversity, entertainment, housing, children's activities, business climate, parks, education levels, low crime, friendliness of people, and convenience.
With this said, I don't understand your feeling a need to sling unfounded accusations about Williamson County when it is obvious that your opinion and the real facts just don't jive.
|
What I do not understand gbone, is your obsession with hard data and your refusal to entertain the thought that someone with a differing opinion than yours could be correct. Do you ever look at the other person's point of view before making false assumptions about them? I worked quite a few years for a company in Brentwood, so please do not BOLDLY assume things you know nothing about. Statistics don't paint the entire picture either. I enjoy debating topics with many of the forum members here, but your constant obsession to always be right makes an attempted debate with you, for the lack of a better word, boring. Sorry.

I love Murfreesboro for a number of reasons. It has wonderful schools and an extremely family-friendly atmosphere. Also, Murfreesboro is extremely convenient. The shopping is excellent. You have no need to leave Murfreesboro to find what you are looking for. The people of Murfreesboro are, on the whole, pretty normal down to earth folks. We do not walk around with our noses in the air or think we are superior to anyone. You are not judged by the part of town you live in and everyone respects eachother's preferences on what part of town they prefer. One extremely important characteristic of Murfreesboro, is that it is extremely clean. I don't remember the source, but it was named one of the cleanest towns in America. The crime rate is probably about average, nothing out of control, as I feel very safe raising my family here. Of course, you have to use common sense when it comes to safety. The Murfreesboro Recreation Dept. has a multitude of extremely low cost activities for all members of the family. I love Murfreesboro and never want to leave. I moved to Nashville from NJ in 94 and moved to Murfreesboro in 2000. This is my home. Now, I know many people speak very highly of Smyrna. Honestly, I do not know enough about it to make any judgement calls. Lavergne is a town I personally would avoid since it's pretty much the armpit of Rutherford County with some very questionable areas.
Mind you, I do not profit from the promotion of Murfreesboro or any part of Rutherford County. There is a certain realtor who has posted here who specifically profits from home sales in Williamson County. I'm just stating the truth. You can take that as you wish. I just love my city and want other's to share in the happiness.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. You can send me a DM if you want as well. I hope I answered the questions you asked.

Steve, maybe you should keep quiet. The boro is growing fast enough.

Wealth a selling point? --Wow, imagine that. But what does "Williamson County" do exactly as it "relies on it's wealth" ? Who is responsible for this ridiculous and misleading strategy? There should be an investigation.
You write like a socialist, with the attendant pretzel logic, and not at all like a native southerner. Like it or not, people enjoy being around excellence, whether that excellence is reflected in the creativity of the residents (which influences their paychecks), the productivity of the residents (which influences their paychecks), the stability if the residents (which influences their paychecks), and the intelligence of the residents (which influences their paychecks). Williamson county has all of this in spades with natural beauty and history as icing on the cake. Of my fellow alums of MBA (Montgomery Bell Acad.) and Vanderbilt who live in the region, an overly large percentage live in Williamson.
Just a suggestion - get over it. Or you might like it in New Jersey or Michigan with their social and fiscal policies promoting anti-excellence, and their anti-excellent leaders - like the mayor of Detroit or the New Jersey governor.
