I moved to Sumner County which is next to Wilson County. I have gone down to Wilson County several times shopping, etc. I lived most of my life on Long Island.

Hey. I read your post and I'm from NY (Bronx) originally and my family is there but I live in Memphis (actually Cordova). At the moment I'm looking at moving to Nashville or Las Vegas. Memphis politics, crime, taxes and ignorant mentality are too much to deal with. If I didn't live in this suburb I'd have been gone long ago. Ask the question again with more specifics to get more answers. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I am just trying to get the feel of moving from NY area to TN... I know there are differences, but I kind of wanted to hear likes/dislikes, any heads up on anything I should know in advance... etc. Each place has it own set of pros/cons and I would like to hear from people from my area that moved to TN about any of these situations because we will more likely have the same adjustments to make.
I was born and raised on Long Island and I feel that if I choose to move wherever, it will never be like NY... the place I move shouldn't conform to me - I should fit in/blend in - however it should be put...

I'm originally from Northern New Jersey and most people down here say that I am very blunt. Well, that is how many of us NY/NJ folks are and I honestly prefer it. I did not change that when I moved here. I am me. Of course I always try my best to be respectful and polite, but I still say it as it is. Just be yourself!!!

Like: friendly people, shorter winters, lots of shopping & restaurants, less crime, lower cost of living, mountains, lakes
Dislikes (or miss): no family, takes awhile to make friends again, farther to go to stores depending on town you live on than on Long Island, no NY pizza, few bakeries, tornadoes, ocean isn't close
I tried to think of some differences for you.

Hey LI. We just moved to Tn from LI. We've been here (Hendersonville)about 2 months now! I love it here. I am very close to lot's of shopping, dining, ect.! All of the people I have come into contact with are very friendly and welcoming. Making "friends" is tough, but only because I have 3 children who take up most of my time. So I don't have much time to get out and socialize. We are moving into a community next month where we already know some of the neighbors because their kids go to school with my kids. So I am sure once we are settled in the community friends will be easier to have! There are no beaches, but we really did not do much beaching when we lived on LI, so it is not a huge issue for us. We have not found any NY style pizza But when we visit, we will get our fix! Overall, it has been a great move for us. It is different in some ways, mostly nicer, cleaner, & more family orientated (in my opinion)! I do miss my family & friends back on LI, but we visit,,, they visit & we have a web cam! It's different for everybody, but most transplants I speak to are very happy with their move! Good luck, feel free to DM me with any other questions!

LI2South, I live just north of Hendersonville. I'm originally from Long Island. I go to Hendersonville all the time for shopping, restaurants, etc. I think Hendersonville is a great place to live. I know a lot of people who live down there.

Yes still lovin it! We are all settled in our home now and have made some GREAT friends. I absolutely love our neighborhood! My neighbor's have become my best friends. It has really been a good move for us. There are still things I miss, like friends, family, food (there are a lot of chain restaurant's here, not many family owned like on L.I). But overall I love it here and am very happy with our move. Most of all, my kids are so much happier, so that seals the deal for us!
