Just for kicks I was looking at my area on Google's Street View. Ever wonder how long it's been since that was done? Saw many places that are very different than what I know them as (I know I haven't been here very long at all but still). Like the intersection at Concord and Crockett I didn't even recognize it at first.

I bet it'll be changed soon. A buddy of mine who works in Green Hills tweeted that he saw the Google Maps car driving around town a few months back.

Hope everyone rode out the storms safely. I usually don't heed the paranoid weatherfolks' advice to "get to your safe place now", but we did last night. I didn't see any damage on my ride in...hopefully everyone here also had a loud, but uneventful night of storms.

I'm getting used to things around here (tornado warnings are few and far between back home). Just wondering when the warnings start which TV station do folks tune into? I find it weird in how they announce what's going to happen but maybe just because it's way different than back home so I need to get used to a different "delivery".

They're all about the same...it just depends which weather person you're comfortable with. I have always been a WSMV person (Channel 4) since Bill Hall, but Nancy Van Camp kind of grates on me...she seems a little too scared/jumpy, so I ended up watching Channel 5 much of the night.

If severe weather spooks you, you might consider getting a weather radio that has battery backup. You can set it to go off whenever there is a warning that affects your area. That way it wakes you up and lets you know what is going on. They're fairly reasonable...I think ours cost $20-25.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this but just just wanted to say that I'm moving to Boston. I'm relocating for my job and will miss all of you guys here on the Nashville forum. I'm sure I'll still post from time to time. I loved both of my homes in Hendersonville and Germantown and I already know I'm not going to like Boston half as much as I did Nashville. It truly is a great place to live.

Aw...man I hate to hear that! But it sounds like a good opportunity for you. You've been a great presence on the Nashville forums and a good forum friend. I hope you'll continue to lurk around these parts from time to time at least.

When do you move?

We watched Channel 5 too. They seemed to put up some expectations of when the storm would move forward.

Yes we had someone mention a weather radio to us. Can I find them at Wal-Mart or would the average stock checker know what it is? I wouldn't mind having one. I'm not too nervous about it but you just never know when things will happen and we don't have a really great place to duck into here.

You definitely can find them at Walmart, Target, or any department store. In fact, I think we bought ours at Publix...they had a stand right at the front of the store with them. I've heard Midland is a good brand and that's what we have. Just be sure to get one with a battery backup that way if the power goes out the radio still will work.

Just follow the instructions on how to program it to give you alerts for the county you live in. Because we're close to Davidson and Wilson counties, we also have it set up to alert us when there's a warning for those as well...but it's a little annoying because it goes off when there's a warning for southeastern Davidson...which is 45 minutes away. But you can adjust it however you want to.
