Default Gyms - Greater Nashville

OK, so I have been down here now for about a month, I'm ready to find a gym. I've looked at a couple online, and I'm seriously shocked by the prices!! Like, fall over shocked. Where I'm from gym memberships at National/Regional chains are as little as $15 a month, to like a max of $35!

Am I missing something? Are there any gyms in the area that are not going to cost me more than $50 a month? I live in Bellevue but am willing to commute a little bit for a good gym. I'm hardly a muscle guy, prefer a more casual place...

We go to Urban Active on Murfreesboro Rd. The cost is $199/year with equates to about $17/month. For that you get the run of the place including any special classes that they conduct. A month to month membership was something like $69/month. All Urban Active gyms should have the same pricing. I believe they bought out Golds Gym. There's got to be one around your area.

Just noticed your name. I'm from New England as well.

Thanks, very helpful! I will definitely check that out. Is Murfreesboro Rd. also Briley Parkway?? I am used to Bally's or Planet Fitness back home...I just can't get over how expensive gyms are here!

I am from the seacoast area of NH, by the way -- you?

Lake Sunapee, NH. I used to kitesurf around Hampton Beach all the time. That's something I really miss here.

Murfreesboro Rd is not the Briley. It intersects the Briley near the airport. Urban Active is on Mufreesboro Rd. near Nashboro which is further South of the airport. It's about 20 minutes or so from Bellevue in light traffic. Month to month memberships seem to be expensive. If it's something you plan on sticking with, the year membership is definitely the way to go.

Wow, that's so cool that you're from NH to boot! Live Free or Die, baby! North Hampton, here, and yes, I miss the beach/ocean terribly.

Thanks for the additional info. I'm going to check it out later this week. If I wind up joining, I will definitely let you know, and I can introduce myself sometime!

That's the truth...The wife won't feed me if I miss a day at the gym. I never looked into the Y. I associate the Y with kids and I'm allergic to kids.

Everyone has told me the same thing about how high our gym memberships are. Is there a connection to the fact that we are also the most obese in the nation? Not sure but here are some suggestions.

Jewish Community Center is open to everyone of all faiths and is $40 per month
Nashville JCC

Last Year, Centennial Sportsplex next to Centennial Park on West End ran a fabulous special of a year for $250. You may have to call to see when and if they are running that special again
Nashville.gov - Parks and Recreation, Centennial Sportsplex

and also nearby Takes2Fitness :: Home :: Professional Fitness Training in Nashville

I am not sure about the prices on these but are in your area and with gas prices...maybe cheaper than driving elsewhere
