The last day you can register to vote in Tennessee is October 6. The early voting period is October 15th, 2008 through October 30th , 2008.

Don't forget to tell California. I forgot with my old state and heard from the Maryland Board of Elections. I had to fill out a form (postcard sized) to be removed from their voting list. I think the way they found out (it never dawned on me to tell them) was because a year after I moved I was called for jury duty in MD. Luckily, it was a week before my mail forwarding order expired. I just assumed Motor Vehicle (where we register in MD) when I turned in my plates and the State Tax people told them. I also erroneously assumed that when I registered in Tennessee, they made sure I wasn't registered someplace else.

If you're not going to be living in the state you're moving from (which it sounds like you're not) on election day then it probably wouldn't be right to cast a vote which won't be counted until November. You picked a difficult time to move and also vote. I moved here in January and I just filled out the paperwork when I got my Tennessee driver's license but as someone else mentioned there's going to be a period of time that's necessary to process the voter registration and you might not get it done in time to vote in Tennessee. I don't know the legalities of this situation if you're in a transition period while moving from one state to another and the timing of the move wouldn't allow you to vote in the state you're moving to. I've never missed voting in an election and if it were me in this situation I would contact officials at both states, explain what's going on, and try to determine in which state your vote should be cast and if there's anything that could be done to speed up the process considering the circumstances. Good luck with the voting and also with your move.
