Default Out of state voter registration?

We're moving during October from out of state to TN. What is the best way to change state voter registration to Tennessee? I'm good with absentee if that works too!

Your best bet is to do early voting in your current state. Once you arrive in TN you pick up a voter registration at the library or go to your local voter registration site (usually a county courthouse but check your specific county). Processing of voter registration usually takes a week or two.

Voting is different here then from California. You can't get absentee voting here unless your are old or disabled. I asked about absentee voting and got YELLED at by a few people here on the thread. My daughter is handicapped and we always absented voted in California. But can't here.

I still do not understand the voting system here. They do something called early voting. I guess they can vote before the actual election day... Maybe some one will explain it.

That's not correct, Lee. A handicapped person can vote absentee by mail. So can the caretaker of a handicapped or ill person.

You may have misread my post. I had said in the first sentence of my post that a disabled person can't vote and then I talked about my handicapped daughter not being able to vote. Disabled and handicapped are the same thing. But I do understand where you saw it as a handicapped person can't vote absentee. My error sorry.

I understand all that now. But in California ANYONE can vote absentee. You can also register as a permanent absent voter. You don't have to be disabled and/or handicapped...

I did misread your post, Lee. Sorry. It was early in the morning and all the gray cells weren't working (not that they're all that energetic during the day).

There is a long list of reasons that can be given for voting absentee by mail here. Actually, anyone can; all they have to do is say they're going to be out of town on election day. Early voting has reduced the need for adsentee voting.

Now I'm confused...just to clarify--Lee, you do understand that as a the caregiver of your daughter you can absentee vote? At least that's how I read the list that I linked to on the previous thread. I hope that's right anyway. I think voting should be as easy and convenient as possible for everyone who's eligible to vote.

Yes I understand how the absentee voting works (Here) and in California. The major difference is that in Calif you can register for absentee voting on a permanent bases and here you have to register for absentee every election...

Alleycat I know exactly what your saying about Gray Matter... Mine is mush. But after 58yrs of being cooped up in some kind of liquid we all would... Ha ha
