I had wondered about the clear nail polish thing, as it is what I have always heard to do. Makes sense though that one would think it worked if this was the life cycle of the chigger! Thanks!

And to really make sure, use repellent AND shower/change clothes as soon as possible. Change all your clothes -- they tend to like places where clothing is tight against the skin, which means places you won't want to be seen scratching
Wash the clothes right away, too. Don't want any chiggers wandering about.
(I'm a little obsessive about them. Still carry a few scars from especially long lasting bites.)

Everyone has excellent suggestions. You hopefully have gotten the chigger rid and unfortunately once you have them, all you can do is try not to scratch or they will become infected. If he is miserable, he might consider calling his physician to get a cortisone shot. My friend who is a dermatologist swore that Avon's Skin so Soft was the best product to keep away chiggers and all his hunter buddies bought it in mass quantities. I even get them just walking around my yard and flower beds and can actually feel them crawling. If I take a shower immediately, I can get rid of them before they have time to dig in...and they do love tight places under clothing.
Good luck

Thank you all so very much for all the ideas for releif. The good news is, he is starting to feel better. He has been taking Zyrtec for the itch relief. He is on day 5 so I anticipate it going away. It is worse at night than during the day. He also sprays his legs with the Benadryl spray which seemed to help alot.
I will be looking into getting the Avon Skin so Soft. Is this a lotion, or a bug spray?

I believe the Avon skin so Soft is a lotion.
I actually buy the oil formula, put it in a spray bottle, and spray around the outside of my house to repel bugs.

Yes, be sure to buy the oil like you use in your bath. It is so popular for this purpose that it came in a spray...not sure if it still does. Tell him also to tuck his pant legs into his boots or socks to keep the chiggers and ticks from crawling up his legs and spray all over.
glad he is doing better...they are nasty creatures.

You are probably thinking of the Avon Skin So Soft Bath Oil - make sure to get the ORIGINAL formula. The "Soft and Sensual" is more of a girly perfumey scented type, doubt Jason would like that one
If you need help finding it, I can help you out

Hi Kim-
I just wanted to let you know that my boyfriend is a hunter too and is always in the woods. We just moved here ourselves from MI. He is always in the woods but for some reason a week ago the chiggers just got him. It was so bad that he had them on his legs, arms, EVERYWHERE!! I was just laughing reading your post because my boyfriend didn't sleep for three days because the itch was so bad. Finally, after about a week, it's all gone BUT he has red marks ALL OVER!!!
If you were able to get anything that worked, let me know so next time we can use it. He got StingEze but that didn't work that well.

I ended up buying the Chigger rid (something like that??) Saturday because he was still itching pretty bad. I put the clear nail polish on him Thursday evening. That hurt like heck, but took care of the problem - that night. I found the Chigger rid at Walmart Saturday; our local pharmacy did not think it was sold anymore. That took care of the itch instantly and, to my surprise, I have not heard anything about it since then!!
