last night at monell's a young couple recommended an Italian restaurant to us...but they couldn't remember the name. It's over by Bellevue, owned for a long time by an older gentleman. They said it was very good with personalized and friendly service. Anyone know the name?

Could it be Antonio's? Or Caesar's?

I know that is a long drive but for BBQ -- Carl's Perfect Pig in White Bluff. We always get the ribs and a jar of Bill's BBQ sauce.

Here are my top 5, really in no particular order, just 5 locally owned places:
1. PM in Hillsboro Village because no matter how picky the group you're with is they have something for everybody and more than fair prices from sushi to burritos to burgers. www.pmnashville.com
2. Boltons Spicy Chicken & Fish on Main Street in East Nashville. Yes it looks like a scary gray shack that you'd never want to go in, but it just takes getting a spicy fish sandwich or chicken on a stick one time and you'll be hooked. Just a tip, start out mild or medium & work your way up, they've been known to make grown men cry. Here's a link to reviews on Boltons since they don't have a website: Bolton's Spicy Chicken & Fish - Nashville, TN
3. Athens Family Restaurant 8th Avenue South, Nashville. I really can't say enough good things about Athens. I love their combination platter, it's the chef's choice of 2 items and no matter what they throw in there it's always good and you won't leave hungry. www.athensfamilyrestaurant.com
4. Past Perfect. 3rd Avenue, Nashville. Because their food is awesome, the staff is always friendly and because on Thursdays after 4 they have appetizers half price. Last Thursday I went with friends and we had 3 appetizers and a huge burger with a side item for $26. Their spinach artichoke dip is really good. The burgers are untraditional. I like the smokehouse which is topped with carmelized onions and smoked gouda...mmmmmm, but the top of the bun seems too huge, I always take it off and just eat it with the bottom one. Here's their site: www.pastperfectnashville.com
5. Last but not least La Hacienda on Nolensville Rd. I know there are several La Haciendas in Nashville, even on Nolensville road, but this one is the real deal, they make their own tortillas there, you can see chickens roasting from your table and the pork is out of this world. Wanna try my favorite thing there? Order whatever looks good to you and then throw in a couple of Tacos Al Pastor on a FLOUR tortilla. Try an Horchata drink while you're there too....they have a website but it doesn't offer up much info, here's a link to some reviews
La Hacienda Taqueria - Nashville, TN 37211

These look great! Are there other locally owned stores that you love like hardware, supplies, gifts, etc.?
