The way payers (insurance companies, medicare, etc.) pay the hospital is based on the census at midnight. They have to charge you for the day if you are there at midnight to avoid fraud. Don't blame the hospital.

CT Scanners can cost up to $1.2 million for a top notch 64 slice out on the market right now. Add in construction facility installation costs, maintenance of such, infrastructure to support it (image transfer, etc.), plus Technologist time plus people that clean the room, pay the electric bill, buy and wash the sheets you were on, yadda yadda yadda. It is not cheap for the hospital to provide high quality services. Then, on top of that you have to cover costs of those that can't pay. I can go all day and night about this subject. Nashville people are soooooo lucky to have such quality healthcare.

TN37043 is on a distinguished road
I was in the ER last year and it came to $8000. Time there - 1 hour, 15 minutes. Long enough to let a morphine drip run for kidney stones and a quickie xray to tell me something I already knew. It's absurd.

Went today for a needle biopsy. All of 15 minutes for the procedure. Cost - over $1000 and that does not include the lab work or the doctor's bill. It is pretty much just the cost of the room and a syringe. No anesthesia. Not even a local.

This seems to have turned into a HealthCare thread that is more global than just Nashville. As such I am closing this thread. Feel free to start a new thread on Healthcare costs in an appropriate, non state forum. Thanks.
