For some Shadow those may be good options but we don't have any of those in EN! My Thai house guests this week probably wished there was a Cracker Barrel next door, they ate there 4 x on a 4 day trip!

Try Jay's Family Restaurant in Northeast Nashville 37207 on Dickerson Road it's very good, the service is very very nice because I have been there many times and you would not believe how many people come there from out of town I just love it and they just put in nice brand new chairs so trust me you will really like this place although it just has a good independant feel so it is just right and their toast is the very best around.

Yes, I have tried Jays and it's good and also very inexpensive. Like artemis said in an ealier post, there's a new meat and three on Trinity Lane (near Gallatin Rd) called Southernbred. Every thing is made fresh and is very tasty. I can testify to the Chicken and Dumplins. Here's a review from The Scene -

Thank you all for keeping this link going, because I will be in Nashville for a month and continue to try out your recommendations - though on a budget this time.
I hear that Nicole Kidman is a fan of Margot's now that she spends time in Nashville with husband Keith Urban.

We like the Biscuit House for breakfast. Nothing fancy, but it's good and inexpensive. There's always a good-sized crowd in there. Gallatin Pike between Seymour and Petway.

You can't beat The Biscuit House's breakfast. I always get The Haptownes with country fried steak (the pork chops are fantastic as well)...were regulars also...but their meat and three part of the menu is pretty average, not terrible but nothing really stands out. Just a heads up, they stop selling breakfast during weekdays at 11:00 AM (not sure about the weekend).

We went to Jay's yesterday. I hadn't been before, but felt very comfortable there.
When the waitress asks if you need a menu, that says there are a lot of regulars

Well I just got back from my 6 weeks in Nashville and it was so hot. Now my update on the new places I tried in East Nashville -
Southern Bred I tried twice- the breads they brought out were good, the baked chicken just OK and did not care for the salmon cakes, the carrots one night good the second time too soft, and the mac and cheese good. If I go again I would try the salads because they looked very good. The portions were large.
16th bakery became a daily stop for coffee cake or lemon bars.
Ugly Mugs good coffee, nice large cafe, I believe they have wi-fi and the owners are very nice.
Italian pizza pasta place on Woodland has pretty good pizza.
OK these are not in East Nashville but liked a lot - in Germantown - the Mad Platter and in Green Hills the yogurt place Kraves (I think I have it right - on Abbott Martin).
btw - the Downtown YMCA is great and the yoga studio on Featherland and 11th is very nice as well.

I agree with the Marche Group- I went to Marche for lunch and it satisfied my taste buds.
I also tried Dee's bar b q (I drove by it a couple of times b/4 I got up the nerve to try it) but the chicken was pretty good and I would go back, however I did not care for the sides.
The one place I wanted to try was Mad Donna's - well next time.
The weather is perfect today here in No Cal but I think your air is cleaner in Nashville.
