Default Neighborhoohs in Nash like Highlands/Crescent Hill in Louisville?

Hello All

Are there any neat, character-filled neighborhoods in and around Nashville (around Metro Center) like the Highlands and or Crescent Hill/St. Matthews areas that are located in Louisville KY where there are long rows of small businesses w/ artsy feel w/ lots of resturants?

THANKS

Yes, East Nashville possibly, but a better answer is simply "no". Or, perhaps East Nashville in 10 years, possibly.

I used to live right off Bardstown Rd. near a Heine Bros. coffee shop and I can say that currently there are no neighborhoods with the feel of the highlands. I miss my Irish pubs just thinking about this. East Nashville would probably be the closest but still has a long way to go. There are a few neighborhoods that have small businesses w/ an artsy feel w/ restaurants but they are usually only a few blocks long.

I agree with this. A lot of people claim East Nashville has "character," but there are plenty of "characters" in that neighborhood that are too shady for my tastes. Is it better than it was 10 years ago? Yes. Does it still have a LONG way to go? You bet.

Well you take the good with the bad...it's also still very affordable in most areas. I wouldn't live anywhere else in Nashville and have never been mugged or robbed. The poster should look for themselves. I would go to 3 Crow for some happy hour drinks then walk to Rumours East or Cafe Margot and eat dinner. Have some after dinner coffe at Bongo Java East or a short drive to Ugly Mugs or Portland Brew East which are located in the vicinity of Rosepeppers and Eastland Cafe on Eastland Ave. No offense to anyone here, but I don't believe a lot the posters on here have been to the eastside in many years (or just go to shelby for their weekly softball game and don't venture to other neighborhoods besides maybe a bar in 5 Points or Edgefields or possibly drive down the eye sore of Gallatin Road). There are renovations and houses being improved on what seems like every street, even in the current housing climate.

My knowledge of East Nashville is limited, that's why I was sure too follow it with the word "possibly".

Have you ever been to the Highlands in Louisville? I have absolutely nothing against East Nashville--when we move to Nashville in a few months it's quite possibly going to be our home. But the density of development there doesn't compare to the neighborhoods the original poster asked about. It's undergoing extensive redevelopment, and is certainly headed in that direction, but it's got a long way to go. The "eye sore of Gallatin Road" is one big problem, since it's the main thoroughfare of the neighborhood. When the entire length up and down Gallatin Road looks like the heart of Five Points currently looks, then you'll have something like the Highlands. Again, maybe 10 years from now there will be something close (if the current pace of redevelopment continues).

No I haven't. But when I said you "take the good with the bad" I aluded to the fact it probably wasn't quite the same. I wanted to point out although that it may not be the same there may be some pluses that East Nashville has (affordability) that the Highlands probably doesn't offer. Not sure what is wrong with offering the advice to check it out for themselves instead of being frightened away by the negative comments about this area of town.
