Default affordable housing in Murfreesboro, and Nashville

What kind of house could I get on a limited budget? I am talking a fixer upper for under $100,000 is this reasonable? and what side of town or zipcode would I start looking in if you do have some. I am an older single lady, but still like the amenities of parks, coffeeshops, libraries, walking and biking..Absolutely think outdoor cafes are the bomb. But, I want to live in a safe area also where i can just leave my house and take a walk and not have to worry.

Gonna have lots of trouble getting all you want in Murfreesboro for that $$$. You'll compromise on something - most likely safety.

Same in Nashville. Everyone wants affordable, safe, with lots of amenities. Supply and demand means "affordable" disappears first.

I live in Murfreesboro and I'm afraid I have to agree with the folks who posted prior to me.

wow I always thought nashville area was more reasonable in housing then in NYS. I guess not. We have a house here in a suburb of Buffalo, a VERY nice and safe area. 3 bedroom house with full finished basement and the properties in our neighborhood go for about $100,000. I was hoping to relocate but it may not be affordable unfortunately

You can probably find safe and affordable, or safe and walkable, or lots of amenities and safe. In other words, two out of three is possible. All three? Then things get much more difficult.

Housing is more affordable in NYS than here.

I bought a house in South Inglewood/East Nashville fixer-up for under $100,000 and can walk to 2 coffee shops (Portland Brew, Ugly Mugs), 6 restaurant
/bars (Family Wash, Rosepeppers, Eastland Cafe, foobar/Es Fernandos, Nikos and coming soon Pied Piper Eatery) and can bike to the Five Points area, Mitchels Deli, Sip, Sweet 16 Bakery or Shelby Park. You might find something in Eastwood Neighbors area (which would probably be a little safer than South Inglewood now) for that price but probably the lowest prices would be slightly more than that and they are rising pretty fast even in today's economy. But like others have said you can't really get all three, as crime can still be an issue over here on the east side but it's getting better not worse. This would be in the 37206 and 37216 zip codes. I would not buy a house without actually doing some onsite research and get a real estate agent familiar with these areas. Good luck wherever you decide to move.

More on the "two out of three" rule:
Here in Madison there are some safe, affordable neighborhoods, but it's not really bikeable or walkable. A big chunk of Madison is made up of car-centric 1950s/60s suburbia.
