Default Hendersonville/Gallatin area...disappointed..many questions!

We moved to the Hendersonville/Gallatin area a few months ago and are becoming a little disappointed at our choice. I am having trouble finding anything about new development in the area. We are finding (a little late) that we have to drive to Madison for many restaurants such as Red Lobster or Outback. We also have to drive there to go to Sam's Club, Michael's, JoAnn Etc., Bed Bath & Beyond, JcPenny and many other places we can't find in our area. I know they are building a lot at Indian Lake and Glenbrook. We also heard about the Target across from Fairview and some new development at 386 and Big Station Camp where the college bought some land. Does anyone have a list of who has actually committed to building/leasing at any of these shopping centers? I was shocked to see that Marble Slab Creamery next to the new Publix off Gallatin Pike has gone out of business. I was also wondering if the McAllister's Deli in Gallatin is coming or going. We took some visiting friends there the other night and were embarrassed to see that it was not open. Yet they have a sign at the main entrance.
Also, can anyone suggest any good pizza places? We have driven to the NYPD in Mt. Juliet just to pick up a pizza and come home. (This is an insanely long drive to get an excellent pizza).
Lastly, does anyone know if the homes in these two areas are appreciating? A home down the street sold for quite a bit more than they paid less than two years ago. Typically how long does a home sit on the market here?
If anyone has any info/opinions on any of these topics, please respond!

No city of 50,000 is going to have every conceivable restaurant. Red Lobster and Outback are just about the only two big chains that Hendersonville doesn't have. Cheddar's, Chop House, September's, and Demos's are all superior restaurants, anyway.

Madison, as far as I'm concerned, can also keep Michael's and JC Penney's, who both sell inferior products. There is no Sam's Club in Hendersonville but Costco (even better) should be coming in the next year.

There was never a Marble Slab in the Publix shopping center, unless you're talking about in Gallatin. The Marble Slab in Hendersonville is in the new Indian Lake development and is doing very well. I don't go to Gallatin much, so I couldn't tell you what the deal is with their McAlister's.

Have you tried Brixx Wood Fired Pizza in Indian Lake Village? It is way better than NYPD's, as is Big Looy's, though they are only open Thursday-Sunday.

My condo has appreciated by 10% since March of 2007, even in this market. Sumner County is a growing, appreciating market, and I expect to see development pick up even more as credit markets slowly begin to thaw.

Can I ask where you moved from originally?

I don't know why the McAlister's in Gallatin closed, but it wasn't for lack of business, so far as I could tell. They were always just as busy as any other McAlister's around the Nashville area.

I cannot help but ask why you did not research the basic facts prior to moving here. Then you would have known there were aspets not to your liking.

The only response that was the least bit helpful was Pimpy's. And yes I was referring to the Marble Slab Creamery in Gallatin. Thanks for the suggestion of Big Looy's and Brixx, we are going to try one of them tomorrow night. As for Costco, I keep hearing that too. I would love to see it in writing and not just as a rumor.

Big Looy's is only open Thursday-Sunday, so if you want pizza tomorrow, my suggestion is Brixx. It is REALLY good, and in my opinion it has the best atmosphere of any of the new restaurants in Indian Lake Village.

I had no idea that Gallatin even had a Marble Slab, so I couldn't tell you why they closed. Maybe they didn't feel it necessary to have another location so close to the one at Indian Lake?

I haven't seen anything "official" about Costco either, but I've sure heard plenty of people talking about it like it's a sure thing.

It's funny how different people are! I moved out of Hendersonville last December because it was getting too busy (hee, hee), but you don't think it's busy enough! I really hate the new Streets of Indian Lake concept, and I don't even patronize it. Upscale stores in this economy? What a hairbrained idea that is!!

Anyway, city planners are notoriously tight lipped about new businesses coming into town. You'll see buildings under construction and no sign stating what the business is going to be. I'm pretty sure it's deliberate. But there's always someone who knows a little something, so "rumors" are often quite strongly based on fact. But economic conditions could easily be causing sudden changes in plans, too, which probably will leave rumors at the rumor level even longer. It's probably harder to make a construction deal stick now.

I had heard that NYPD Pizza was coming to the Streets of Indian Lake. Can anyone confirm that? I have heard the Costco rumors at Glenbrook, too, but then they built Steinmart on the piece of land I thought Costco was taking, so that left me confused. I heard TJ Maxx was coming to Indian Lake Village. I even have a plot plan of the shopping areas for the Streets of Indian Lake (with TJ Maxx marked on it). Some of it is labeled with store names and some of it is blank. It got circulated in email in August of 2006 by friends of someone "connected" in town. I still have it, and it confirmed my hunches that "upscale" is a bad idea (Ann Taylor is going bankrupt, so what will happen to Ann Taylor Loft in the Streets of Indian Lake?) I was excited about the new construction until they actually started doing it. Then I really hated it. The TRAFFIC is horrendous now trying to get through the Exit 7 areas of 386. What used to take 5 minutes to traverse can now take 20 minutes. No thanks.

I'm glad I moved to a quiet area. I'll drive to the stores and leave the madness behind me when I go home.

Most of the commitments for Streets of Indian Lake took place long before the "bad economy."

Besides, as bleak as the doom-and-gloom media likes to make things look, current economic conditions should only be affecting a small sliver of the population. 6.5% unemployment may sound bad, but the flip side is that 93.5% of people still have jobs. The carnage on Wall Street is depressing, but if you're not retiring in the next year or two, you shouldn't stress out over it.

Personally, I'm not participating in the recession and I feel like I've gotten a raise in the last six months due to falling gas prices. Way too many people are using this "crisis" as an excuse or a scapegoat, when there is no legitimate reason they should even be fazed by it.

Yes, it is strange isn't it? I feel like I am almost getting gas for free as it is so cheap..Down to $1.68 here. I am loving it!
