The job market is bleak out here right now. My dauther and I moved here in September and are still living off savings. We both have college educations, good resumes, and great references. Most of the ads on Craigslist are scams. We have both been to interviews that said later that they decided not to hire anyone, but if they had decided to hire someone, we would of had jobs. The only offer was for my daughter at $8.00 an hour. In LA she was making closer to $28 an hour. Forget agencies, they keep laying off people. The sadest part is, my daughter got another call yesterday from an agent in LA asking if she would be interested in a position there.
Don't get me wrong, we're still happy we left LA. We just wish we had regular paychecks. If you can hold out until spring, I'd wait.

We are planning on waiting until April to see what is going on. A couple of the agencies said they thought it may pick up then. Who knows! Sure hope you get jobs soon. It's really sad to dig into the savings, that's what we've been doing. It seems like in 2007 when I first started checking in to moving to TN, there were really alot of jobs. Sure has changed.

Jobs
I started checking in to NW Arkansas because I saw that their economy is good, don't know if that's true or not. Their unemployment rate is really low compared to most places. They do have more taxes then TN & I really do like TN better, but if there really is work there I'd probably go, because we really want out of CA. Their rent & houses are really cheap. They probably have low paying jobs. I'm still checking it out.
Thanks for all the help.

WOW! That's pretty cheap for CA. I didn't think there would be anything for rent in the $600 range.

California is a long way from Tennessee. The climates of the two are as different as the cultures. Winters in Tennessee can be brutal: cold and damp. 35 degrees and drizzle are not that uncommon in TN. Warning: Get a flu shot before coming here. There is a lot of crime here, plenty of poverty, and traffic can be wild. Ten bucks an hour will go further in Tennessee, provided you can even find a job. If not, then stay put! My advice is to wait for better days.

I am a professional Financial Advisor with many years experience. I hate to tell you this, but when April rolls around, the situation will NOT be better. It will be worse.....much, much worse......worse everywhere.
Sorry to ruin your hopes, but I would rather tell you what I really see than give you a line of "bull" .

At least now you know and you can prepare. Save your money, I don't care if it's five bucks a week. Don't buy anything you can live without and if you must make a purchase, use cash. Avoid credit cards and bank come-ons...they are a rip-off. Take care of what you have....your car, your home, your health, etc. Avoid eating out. Postpone lavish vacations. You get the idea!
You will pull though this just fine.

And if you need life insurance (as most of us do) get a term policy for 30 years with a no-cost convertible option. Your family may need permanent protection later on.
