Heiman st is right next to I-40, so it can be kind of rough. It's a pretty short street, but there are some decent cheap apts by ed temple blvd, though you will be surrounded by tsu students. I definitely see north nashville as an improving area, but it's in a much earlier state than, say, east nashville. If you are looking for cheap and a good investment, then north nashville is the place for you. If you are looking for safer, I'd look a little west of TSU or maybe up towards madison. I will say that my wife and I have lived a few blocks south of Heiman for the last few years and never had any problems.

Don't do it
HEIMAN STREET AREA IS A VERY, VERY HIGH CRIME AREA. I KNOW FIRST HAND. I'M AN EX-USER AND THAT IS THE AREA WHERE I WAS, EVEN I WAS AFFRAID. THERE'S A LOT OF GANG ACTIVITY, DRUG USE AND PROSTITUTION IN THAT AREA.
THANK GOD BECAUSE HE SAVED ME AND GAVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE TO COME TO HIM AND LIVE.

No offense sanders, but no matter where you live, if you live a criminal lifestyle--trouble comes to you. After three years living here, people have been nothing but pleasant, and we've had no crime trouble. The neighborhood is improving, I have almost paid off my house on a grad student's budget, and I can walk to work. Of course, I have admittedly cheap tastes--I still love the look of the new public housing off of 17th ave n.

I agree to stay away.
It is a very dangerous high crime area. If you do have to work there, I hope that it is during daylight hours.

Stay away. That is one of the worst areas in all of Nashville. The fact that the guy who advised to move there said he loves the look of a public housing development should tell you something about his taste in neighborhoods. Heiman Street is definitely NOT Franklin or even Hermitage, and a single female living there alone is a recipe for disaster.

Look towards west nashville. If you do not have much money, then, try somewhere east. It is under renovation, so on 1 block you will see steel bars, on the other block you will see good looking gardens. Just be careful and get familiar with the area.

Dang guys, have y'all actually seen the new public housing neighborhoods? They actually are good looking, in my opinion at least. Cookie cutter, but good looking nonetheless.
To the OP, I'm a female in my early twenties & workout at Hadley Park which is a stones throw from Heiman Street and I've never had any problems in that area, ever. It seems overly simple to me, if you want the job and like what they're offering then take the job. You don't have to live on the same street you work on or even in the same neighborhood, what a difference a five or ten minute drive can make when dealing with downtown.
