Default Education Job Market

The lull in the economy has really affected the education job market here in Arkansas. I am finding that I will probably need to move once I get my teaching licensure. (I will be certified P-4 and love the non-traditional/year-round schedule.)
What is the education job market looking like right now? Any particular schools I should look at - private or public?

Thanks so much!

Pretty competitive in most counties. Like everywhere else, chances of getting a job are higher if one is licensed in Spec. Ed, ESL, and Math. The rest of us, not so much. I'm PE certified. For each job I applied for there was probably 40 applicants. I think for Early Childhood/Elementary Ed it's closer to 100 applicants per posted position.

On that same subject, how available are jobs for classroom teacher aides?

We will probably be settling in Clarksville to start (hubby's job is there). I worked as a classroom teacher aide here in San Diego for both regular classrooms (elementary) and SED classrooms in hospital settings for both elementary and high school.

I am planning on beginning to inquire/apply now for the 2009 school year.

Thanks in advance everyone!
