I moved from Fort Collins to the Franklin area about 5 years ago. I went to school in Fort Collins and stayed for 25 years. I loved it. It requires some adjustment to get used to the heat and humidity of TN. We usually take a summer vacation somewhere in the Rockies during the worst of it. You should definately take a look at the Franklin area.
The old town of Franklin is very similar to old town in Fort Collins. The schools are great and there are plenty of good restaurants in the area. I live just southwest of Franklin in
the Leipers Fork area. It is beautiful and rural, 5 minutes to old town Franklin and 20 from Cool Springs which has everything. I am employed by Vanderbilt and my commute is
around 30-35 minutes. It is pretty painless. Hope this helps.

Bufford: We love Fort Collins, and we are not 100% sure we are going to move yet. We both have family in Ohio, and we would like to be a little closer to them. We don't want to be in Ohio, but would really like to be within driving distance from our home town. I would definitely recommend Fort Collins though. While we really want to be closer to family, we are really struggling with leaving a town that we have come to love.

It's really a great thing to live somewhere that you truly love. I'm a bit concerned about the humidity in the summer, in the south! I've heard Fort Collins has beautiful summers. Thanks for the input.

A couple of off-the-cuff comments . . .

One, it often is hot and humid here in summer, especially July and August. That does put a damper on some outdoor activities. However, some days its not so bad, and besides, we all have air-conditioning these days.

Second, I've only been to California a few times on business. In a way, I felt hotter there ("hotter" is maybe not the right word). Maybe it was because I was generally at construction sites, but a lot of it was due that it just seemed so dry at the places I was at. It looked like if someone threw out a match the whole countryside would go up in flames. Of course, California a big state so my experiences might not be typical. I've never been to northern California.

But . . . if you really think hot and humid conditions will bother you, perhaps Tennessee is not right for you. No place is right for everyone. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Southern CA can get really hot in the summer. I think I could probably adjust to the humidity . It's worth it to live in such a beautiful state! I have relatives that moved from the beach area in CA to Nashville & the humid weather does not bother them at all. As you said there is A/C, I don't think I would want to work out in it.
Thanks for your help Alleycat.
