Family hitting tough times
We live in Cleveland and its a dying city. Looks like I may lose my job soon. We want to rebuild our life in Nashville. What I am looking for is an area that is safe, low rent cost and good schools. Any advice would be on a good location is much appreciated....thanks

Nashville is getting pretty bad job wise and I recently read that Tennessee is expected to have around a 10% unemployment rate by the summer.
What kind of work do you do ?

We've had threads about most of the areas around Nashville and within Nashville.
These include the towns of Franklin, Brentwood, Mt. Juliet, Hendersonville, Smyrna, Hendersonville, Murfreesboro, Nolensville, and others; as well as such areas of Nashville as Green Hills, Bellevue, West Meade, Hillsboro Village, Sylvan Park, East Nashville, Belmont, Edgehill, 12 South, etc. You might want to poke around a bit and read a few of these threads, then come back with your own questions. Of course, it's alway hard to get everything you want . . . and "low rent". Most of the better areas are above average in price, as might be expected. The further out you go from Nashville, the less this is a factor.
The one big problem living within Metro Nashville itself is the public high schools. There are some good high schools, and some you wouldn't want your kids to go to (if you have high school age children). Efforts are underway to improve the schools, but you still want to do your own research when it comes to public schools.

I understand what you mean about Cleveland. While people will tell you its in a slowdown here, and it is, it's in a boom compared to Cleveland. I have relatives there. I will tell you that I think you'll feel like you've started all over again if you're able to come here. You will get to see the sun. The cold will not cut through you. You won't have to see black gung for months on cars and everywhere else in between. Snow will be fun (on the rare occasion that it happens here) and not messy or require you to clean off a car or driveway. And driving through the city will not be depressing.
There are lots of options for housing. The price range you'd like to be in will narrow options down quite a bit. Then you'll need to know what you want to be close to and how close you want to be to it. That will help us give you some suggestions. Don't forget to add what kind of job you'll be seeking. You never know if someone on here has connections...every little bit helps.

My husband was born/raised in Ohio and you are right...it's dying and has been for awhile. Good luck with your move, it will definitely be a move up!

The OP means Cleveland, Ohio. But yes, there is a Cleveland, Tennessee; it's northeast of Chattanooga.

Thanks guys
Yes, I meant Cleveland, OH. I know the economy is tough all over, but the the Northern cities are really getting hit hard.
I am in TV sales right now (commercials), but I am looking to make a change to Pharmaceutical/Medical/Healthcare sales.
I guess where we live will depend on where I get a job at.
Thanks for any help.

You might have a better shot at work if you looked at moving to Atlanta. I know they have TBS and CNN that would probably have better employment options.
