Tam, you can actually get very normal size houses in Belle Meade. There is one on the market now that has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1600 square feet, cottage style built in 1940. It's listed at $439,000-that's the problem.

I currently live in Cheyenne, Wy. I need at least a three bedroom house - daughters do NOT like sharing a room. We currently have a 4 bedroom house, two living areas, two baths. I homeschool so would need a room for that - can use a formal dining area for that. Not into the bigger the house the better - could spend upto $300,000 but REALLY I want to top out at $200,000.

I like newer homes (built in last 20 years). I don't mind the cookie cutter home but husband does. I love front porches and a community feel. I don't mind driving to get places - seeing as here in wyoming you have to drive a lonnngggg way to get anywhere. Or it is so frigging cold you don't want to even walk to the neighbors. My husband hates driving and wants to be within a 30 minute drive to work address (downtown on Deaderick - regular commute times). Preferably he would love to take public transport so he can read and not drive. Would love a large yard for our Australian Shepherd. We are very outdoorsy people or use to before we moved North.

There is little to no crime here in Cheyenne.

Looks like the company is going to put us in corporate appartment at the end of next month so that we can look around Nashville for a month or so.

Too much info? Not enough?
Thanks-
Tam

Tam, you are probably going to have to compromise on the driving time for your husband if you are going to meet the other criteria you stated or compromise on your other criteria. It will be difficult, if not impossible, to find what you are looking for for no more than 200k in a safe area that is on more than about 1/4 acre of land. Also, Nashville's public transportation is absymal. One option you might consider(since your husband doesn't mind public transportation) is to live east of the city in the Mount Juliet and Lebanon areas(both in Wilson County). There is a daily commuter train from these areas to the downtown Nashville area. There are some safe and affordable areas in that direction. Living in a corporate apartment for a while will be helpful in that it will give you some time to look. Good luck!

You'll find much of what you are looking for in Bellevue (37221), though you'll likely have to stretch your budget just a little. There are several sidewalk/front porch neighborhoods you'd like, some even have community pools and playgrounds. There is a huge nature preserve called Warner Park nearby, a canoeable river as well as shopping and commercial services. There is also a park and ride depot where you can park your car and ride the bus into town. It's about a 30 minute ride into downtown.

Default coming to nashville

You've made a good decision. You may still wish to consider quality public education when u buy a home... The Resale value of your home revolves somewhat around that issue...Some parts of Franklin and Brentwood as well as Crieve Hall may work well, as well as the western part of the county...Bellevue, Pegram, and even Dickson Co. I would advise renting for 6-12 months, get to know the neighborhoods, and make friends...they will point you in the right directions. Real estate appreciation is no longer assured. You need to make wise and contemplative decisions.
