Default Lewisburg and surrounding areas??

We are thinking of relocating from Southeastern NC. My dh is looking at a job in Lewisburg. What is it like? We have three young girls, but homeschool. We wold like an area that is somewhat rural and relatively inexpensive, but nice and safe. We like a small town feel with being able to easily commute to a larger city. We would most likely rent to begin with. Any info on Lewisburg and surrounding areas would be great.

thanks
Brandei
