Where are the local only honky tonks?
My husband and I like to go out once in a while to kick up our heels in a honky tonk or bar that just plays country music for those of you who aren't sure what that is; however we have been to a couple of the tourist traps downtown and we weren't impressed. We don't appreciate feeling like chaperon's at a high school dance, nor do we like being around those who feel they need to dress is something smaller than a bandaid.
Do any local only honky tonk's exist outside of the Nashville metro area? A live band would be great, however DJ is fine too. Pool tables would be a bonus!
We don't mind a small commute so bring on all suggestions. We usually get a hotel nearby for we believe in taxi only when drinking!

Seriously, why would somebody respond to your question? If outed, people visiting the city will want to check out a "real local honky tonk". Then word of mouth will make it a tourist destination.

The only place that I can think of is Silverado's on Murfreesboro Pike.

Although it's downtown... Roberts on Broadway tends to attract what you are looking for. The bandaids are usually at the Stage. There is a really good band that plays on Saturday nights from 10pm - ? Includes lots of the guys who played with Johnny Cash.
