Default Lipscomb Elementary ?

Hi, we will be moving to Brentwood before the next school year and I have a child going into 4th grade and another into Kindergarten. I'd like to know everything anyone can tell me about Lipscomb Elementary. Academics, extracurricular activities, safety, parent involvement, teachers ect... I have read the reviews on "great schools" website and looked at the schools website but would like opinions from parents who have their child attending there now. I have read good things about the school, is it all true or is there a better school in Brentwood that I should learn about? Can anyone reccomend a great 4th grade and Kindergarten teacher?
Thanks,
Dawn

dawn, I know this school has a very good reputation based on knowing people that have had children there as well as what I have read. However, I can't answer your specific questions as I have not had personal experience with the school. I would imagine why you haven't yet gotten a response to your specific questions is that no one has read your post who has had children there.
As an alternative, find out the names and contact information of parents that are active with the school(PTA officers) and give them a call. I'm sure they would be happy to answer your questions. You should just be able to call the school to get this information. Good luck.

Thanks, thats a great idea. I was in the area today and drove around the school. We also like the look of Crockett Elem and the surrounding areas. That will be my next school to research.

dawn, one thing that I suggest that my out of town clients do, when they have questions about schools, is to visit the school during school time. Just go to the administrative office and ask to speak to someone who can answer questions that you have about the school. Also ask for a tour. It will help you get a better feel for the people and the surroundings. Based on my knowledge of both Lipscomb and Crockett, which is not direct, both are very good elementary schools. I have friends who have had children in one or the other of them and they have been very satisfied.
If you do this I would be curious as to what you have experienced. Good luck!

Thank you. I do plan on visiting the schools during school hours when I know for sure when we are moving. It's hard for me to get to Brentwood often, I live in Smyrna and have a daughter home with me during the day. So far, I can't find any reviews online for Crockett, maybe someone will read this who knows something about this school. Thanks again
Dawn

Hi. We live in Brentwood and my kids went to Lipscomb a few years ago. Great school! Incredible parent involvement, you'll have to fight to sign up to sign up for things. jk There are a lot of great teachers and it feels like a giant family. Lots of tradition and awesome musical programs thanks to Mr. Lafferty if he's still there. They have a different principal that I have not met but it is a great school that I'm sure is pretty much the same. Very Safe. I believe that Crockett is a bit more crowded and changed zoning could be more of an issue there. If you are at Lipscomb, it's likely that you probably wouldn't be rezoned- (it is an area that doesn't have room for anymore growth). I have 9th graders now at Brentwood High which is another great school.

Default Lipscomb elementary

I am a realtor in Brentwood and all my moms LOVE that school. Hard to please everyone...so that is pretty impressive to me. I'd drop by unannounced one day and ask to speak to the principle. See how you are treated. Welcome to Brentwood.

Lipscomb slient auction: sneak preview

Posted: 18 Nov 2009 12:24 PM PST

I just received the auction brochure for Thursday night's Lipscomb Elementary silent auction at Times Ten Cellars, and truthfully, I'm not really sure I want to blog about it because it will simply up the bids for the items I'm going to try to win. But the public has a right to know, no?

Just a few highlights: a weekend stay in Taos, N.M., in a place called Villa Tranquila (sounds relaxing, right?); a six-month membership to the White Rock YMCA; and a York Street chef's tasting menu (six courses with wine pairing) with a signed cookbook.

Or, if you've been wanting some face time with Councilman Angela Hunt, bid on a lunch with her at Fearing's. A day out with your child includes lunch at Angelo's, tickets to the Dallas Children's Theater and dessert at Paciugo. And win a chance to pamper yourself and a friend with two facials at Facelogic, and lunch at Empire Baking Co.

Plus, tons of sports tickets, restaurant gift cards, music lessons and more. Browse the full list, and make sure to be at Times Ten Thursday night between 7-9 p.m. Admission is free, and so is the food — provided by Jimmy's, Whole Foods, Central Market, Newflower Market and Society Bakery.

The post from Lakewooder is not about the Lipscomb in Brentwood. It is irrelevant. I have had three children attend Lipscomb, with one there now. It is an excellent school. Mr. Lafferty is not still there, but the new music teacher is great with the kids. The principal, Mrs. Contich, has children who attend there, and she keeps things under control. She does not allow parents to overrun the school, but keeps volunteer opportunities plentiful. Also fun stuff for kids. The best in Brentwood, I'd say!!!
