We've visited several times and really like the hometown feel and nature of Sumner County - Hendersonville, Gallatin and Goodlettsville are topping the list at this point. I also like the fact that these communities don't seem to be as expensive to live in as their counterparts southwest of the city.

Although we liked some of the areas southwest of Nashville and we've heard good things about others (particularly Thompson Station), I've heard horror stories about trying to get to work downtown.

Also, we are planning to find a rental early on, so any tips on finding a condo, house or nice apartment would be greatly appreciated. We do plan on buying a house in a year or so, and would like to rent in the same school zone we eventually purchase in. Less transition for the kids is always better.

Thank you in advance for any help -
Jennifer,
If drivetime should be kept to 25 minutes or less....consider Mt. Juliet, Bellevue, or even parts of Franklin. (stay as close to the interstate as possible). It is wise to rent where you may choose to buy. Execute a lease that is for 6-12 months with the option to go month to month....Then you can take your time and as you make friends you will begin to hear about cool neighborhoods,.....as well as cool buyers brokers you may want to interview. Check these sites out.....greatschools.net/city/nashville as well as police.nashville.org/state/
Welcome. ur gonna love it.
Condo!

you also give up the culture, the services, and the beauty of NE -you get whatyou pay for...I miss it all - TN is not New England. But it's okay overall.

I have a job I start in Hendersonville actually, so no commute into city for me! but we're coming from Florida and well, home prices here are quite shocking! So it's hard for us to tell if the prices are because it's a depressed area, or just the prices for that area.

Anyway, we love several homes near the lake, but we've also noticed with google maps that there are apartment buildings and a trailer park near one of the homes we like. In FL that means a bad area...

We have 9yo and a 4yo girls... any idea on home locations and schools in Hendersonville? Places where kids can go out a play type...
We recently relocated to Hend' from NY! We love it!! We live in a newer subdivision called "Creekside" which is up on Long Hollow. Very nice area (imo) and the prices have just come down a bit! This community is VERY "KID FRIENDLY". The sidewalks are always loaded with kids riding bikes, running, playing, ect.! You can check out their web site.... Welcome to Creekside. Good luck with whatever you choose, I think you and your family will be happy in Hendersonville. Feel free to PM me with any other questions.

I know EXACTLY where you are talking about because I live two blocks from that area and it is definitely not bad. The trailer park is older and very well maintained and has great lake views, as for the apartment complex it has never been an issue. Our neighbor leaves his garage side door unlocked, we have NEVER had a bad experience and the police are on the ball in Hendersonville. We walk at night without fear and would not ever think twice about going out at night. What Hendersonville has is a lot of southern slower pace attitude, which Franklin is definitely missing, and a smaller town feel. If you like flashy, then Hendersonville won't be for you.

Hope you enjoy the visit...if you need any advice on areas to look in just let me know and I'll try to help. Hendersonville is actually a pretty big area and you usually need to get a couple miles off the main roads to find the best areas!

the thing about hendersonville is to get to downtown, you have to to north first then south due to the lakes. might not be an issue with today's gas prices though.

Well, that would only apply if you lived south of Gallatin Road. and almost all of the new construction is on the north side of the city.

I live down to the tip of one of the peninsula's and I have never had a problem with a trip into Nashville during rush hour. I actually avoid the freeway and use all local roads. Once someone learns their way around, it is not a bad commute at all.
