Diane, I agree with you. We will be living here 2 years in another month. It takes time to adjust to living in TN having lived in NY most of my life and some time in CT. I joined a local newcomers club which has helped me learn more about the area, given me some friends, and also things to do. My neighbors are all very friendly. We don't socialize a lot with them, but if any of us needs anything, we wouldn't hesitate to ask. TN is a breath of fresh air!

Diane Giam,
It sounds like in Nashville either you need to be married with children, retired or a native
to really like it..
Or perhaps in College and that age bracket
I guess for Single People 30 plus..its more difficult....

Thank you noamisday. I think some of the people that are not in the same situation are not seeing Nashville from a certain angle. Even for some of the married transplants it has been a stretch. But you broke it down.....Another thing for people to consider about moving here.
And again I keep hearing we do not socialize much in these blogs.....I do not care married or not who does not socialize that much. I lived back East as a child and everyone knew and socialized with their neighbors. Boy if this is a sign of times to come it sure is not for me. I enjoy socializing, everyone needs it to some degree it is healthy and when I here, " oh we just do not socialize that much with people around us that is scary, is that what technology is bringing us and do they want to pass that down to their children, just a thought for the day....People need people and that is a proven fact. People need at least ten hugs a day:} We are heading in a direction where people are becoming more introverted due to more pressures at work, at home, in relationships etc.........We need to take a step back and open up again it brings new possibilities.

Lillian3,
Yes, I noticed that people do socialize or talk with neighbors more Back East, my Mother
was raised in NYC and people talk to there neighbors there...., I think it is a sign of
the times....
People are more introverted now, ----people get in there homes and shut the doors....you don't
necessarily have to be in each others homes and faces...but at least be cordial...it is
sad.....

people "these days" are plenty sociable, they just do it differently. not as much with neighbors or strangers, but much more with disparate communities with similar interests (cell phone, facebook, etc).
I am not sure which is better, but they are certainly different. today people interact much less with people of different viewpoints, ages, incomes, politics, etc. which is too bad. on the other hand, they have much more in common with those they do, and friendships and families that are "long distance" are in much better contact.

Nbourbaki,
I agree with your post...very true...
There are people you can connect with anywhere....
Some cities are good for some and better for others, everyone has a different experience....
