to be honest with everyone i havent found one city that ive been interested in moving to that doesnt seem to have a major crime problem, jacksonville fl, albuquerque nm,memphis tn.,i lived in nashville for a year, it didnt seem that bad to me and i lived on the east side of town...seems a shame that we have so many unique cities in this country like new orleans or my home town san francisco that are just over the top with crime. ido agree that the majority of crime is usually concentrated in certain areas, St Louis is a perfect example

My finacial and family life, and probably my health too has improved so much its beyond words. For us, there was just nothing left in Ca that was worth staying for.
We are moving to Portland in April coming from Modesto area... We already bought a house and just fell in love with the area. Can't wait to live in a small town and get to know everyone......

Ok, we did the looking 16 months ago,, The best choice for us was Hendersonville, housing is the best deal especially in relation to the public schools, most within the city are a 10 or 9 rating. Hendersonville is attracting local retail so you can live and shop here. The commute is probably the best of all the burbs, williamson county has become very congested. A very helpful website for finding housing in the Nashville Area has been realtracs.com you can click on the picture and view the inside of the house.

Hope this helps

Hendersonville had a better commute than Wiliamson County? "...probably the best of all the burbs"??

Hendersonville has great public schools?

Listen, I liked Hendersonville in the beginning too. Even found a house we loved. Then we drove it during rush hour. That was that. Williamson County schools and Franklin Special School District are better too.

I have friends I work with who live in Hendersonville. They feel the same way, but like living on the lake. That's the only thing keeping them there. Some don't have kids yet, others are in private.

Are you saying Hendsersonville does NOT have good schools? Just wondering because we have been told that "along with" Williamson County" (which I think covers Brentwood, Franklin & Mt.Juliet? ), Hendersonville schools were Very Good!! I have heard the traffic can be unbearable, but other than that I thought Hendersonville was a great place

No, I'm not saying that, exactly. I'm just acknowledging that Wmsn. Co. schools consistently rate higher than Sumner Co.

Mt. Juliet is in Wilson County, which isn't near Wmsn. Co.

I honestly have nothing against Hendersonville. It just sounded like someone had misled you as far as to how the commute and schools compared.

My husband and I are going to visit Nashville the first part of December this year and will be staying at the Wyndham Nashville. Is this close to the Grande Ole Opry and other fun things to do in Nashville? I have never been to Nashville and are wondering what there is to do there for 3 days. We will be driving to Memphis and spending a few days there to visit Graceland..........as I am a huge Elvis fan. Are there any Elvis museums in Nashville??
Thanks...........Tana

I assume you mean the Union Station Wyndham (I don't know of another Wyndham, but there may be and I just don't know it). It's not close to the Grand Ole Opry, but it's relatively close to the Lower Broadway/2nd Avenure area, where there's things like the Ryman Auditorium, the original home of the Grand Ole Opry (and which is still used for shows, just not the GOO); the Country Music Hall of Fame; the Symphony Hall; places like the Wildhorse Saloon, B.B. King's, etc. It's also not far from there to Music Row, where the recording studios are located. The Frist Center for the Visual Arts is right across the street. From the Lower Broad area (Riverfront Park) you can take a riverboat cruise to the Opryland area if you want to go see the Grand Ole Opry, or just to see the Opryland Hotel (it alone might be worth a visit). It's not a long drive from the Wyndham out to the Opryland area, if you wanted to drive.

As far as Elvis stuff, I think you can visit the recording studio where he recorded many of his hits, and the Country Music Hall of Fame has some stuff related to Elvis. I'm not sure what else there is around town specifically dealing with Elvis. Maybe someone else knows.

I concur. I used to be part of an accreditation team that travelled the state, so I do know a little bit about these kinds of things. The schools in Sumner County (which includes Hendersonville) are fine. However, Williamson County's schools, and in particular Franklin's city schools are almost always more highly ranked. In fact, I can't find a single list where Sumner County's schools are ranked as highly as Williamson County's. That doesn't mean they're bad, and in fact Sumner County's schools are probably better than 80% of the rest of the schools in Tennessee. For most people, that's good enough. But if your goal is to be in the absolute best public school system in the Nashville area, you should really check out Williamson County and especially Franklin city.

You won't have a big beautiful lake like they do in Hendersonville (and it really is nice) but the commute to downtown Nashville isn't any worse, and the Franklin/Brentwood area offers some creature comforts that Hendersonville doesn't have. Downtown Franklin, in particular, is really cool.

"Creature Comfort's" Not sure what you mean?

My hubby is getting on the Hendersonville PD, so commuting is not an issue. That said, I do have 3 children, so school's are very important. Especially coming from Long Island, where "they say" some of the BEST PUBLIC SCHOOLS are?? I don't really know for sure. My husband and I went through the school system here, and they were good. As of now I only have a child in Kindergarten so it's hard to say I am hoping we will not be disappointed with the schools system in Hend'! EVERYTHING else is soooo perfect.... for our needs!
