Well, CA is so big and diverse that we obviously can't say CA is more/less expensive than TN in any respect. That's why I asked where in CA.
I have never heard anyone from anywhere in CA having to pay more for insurance and housing here. I paid much more in CA, and we were from a very modestly priced part of NorCal. I remember registering our cars here for the first time. My husband and I looked at each other and laughed. We couldn't believe how little we were charged. The same for utilities and insurance. No contest!
I hope your move back to CA is a happy one. Moving twice sucks.

Moderator cut: cut
Riverside, CA median home sales price: $260,000
Riverside, CA price per square foot: $172
Nashville, TN median home sales price: $159,000
Nashville, TN price per square foot: $126
I don't even need to show gas stats. Food might be a little more expensive here, but it won't put a dent in housing costs. I'll admit though, I'm not sure what rents are there. I'm going to go out on a limb and say taxes are much higher there as well.
If you don't like it here, that's fine, no one is telling you that you must. If you think housing is overpriced...well, you're probably right. But don't start spamming the board with fallacies.

missy1999...... Oh My you are the first one I have seen that is even considering moving back to Calif. Like it was said before California Used to be the place to live. But for some of us it out grew it's self and the people there are so rude. There it is "All About Me". I was born and raised there and lived there for 58yrs. But when it came time for me to move on I did. I wish you all the luck in the world. We chose not to live in Nashville but we live about 30 miles north and love it up here. Things are green here and not brown. There is life here not just day to day stuff. I could ramble on for hours.
Like I said best of luck to you..

I totally agree with you about Nashville. Remember most of the people who respond on this board have never lived anywhere else and this is all they know. They buy into the hype that it is cheaper here. I am from the Chicago area and I know for a fact it is not any cheaper here. You can't go by the median house price unless you are living in a median price house. I find houses in the 400,000 to 500,000 range equivilant to what I can get in the Chicago suburbs. Plus I have all the amenities of a large city which is severely lacking here. I hope your move to California goes well. Don't feel like you are the lone ranger in disliking TN - I hate it here also. We moved to be closer to family also, but it has not been worth it.

goula- I have no problem with anyone not liking it here. To each their own. Any dispute has been with opinions being presented as facts, not opinions themselves.
As for your claim that most posters here have never lived anywhere else- you're just kidding, right? Ridiculous.

Any place is what you make it. You have a right to your opinion, but "Hate" is such a strong word. As far as your statement that most people who respond on this board have never lived anywhere else is absolutely incorrect/BS. Seems like a large majority aren't native Tennesseans. I find it hard to find any other native Tennesseans where I live even. It seems you have never overcome any preconcieved stereotypes that you brought with you here. No one is forcing you to live here. Chicago is a great town, but it's apples to oranges. Of'course your not going to get all the amenities that you have in the 3rd largest city in the US. Can you buy restored Victorian less than 2 miles from downtown Chicago for under $200,000 (or buy at under $100,000 and restore yourself)? There's plenty of people that have moved from Chicago that are doing just that in the Cleveland Park area. Oh, and thankfully they didn't bring the winters with them.

If I could give you more reputation...I would. Great post.
Yeah, I'm a native Tennessean, but every transplanted Tennessean that I know (and I know about a dozen) absolutely love it here. I realize it's not for everyone...and I'm sure if you came here expecting dirt-cheap prices you are probably disappointed. However, I would guess that the VAST majority of people who came here from other places love it here. I also get the impression that a significant number of folks who regularly post here are also transplants, so it's not like we native Tennesseans are stacking the deck in our favor.
I've visited a lot of places in my life (22 states), but I can honestly say there isn't anywhere in this country that I'd rather live and raise a family more than Middle TN. That may make me a TN homer, but it's the truth.

My father had a saying, "When you move to a new place keep an open mind, and if you loved the people in the place where you moved from you will love the people in the new place" it is all up to you and your attitude.
