Hi there, I purchased a home in the country two years ago with the hopes my family and I would be able to move to a place where life can slow down a bit, where people still talk to there neighbors, and a place where we feel safe with are kids going to school. It would also be nice to have my kids go to a school where the main language spoken is english.Anyways with the way the housing market has gone I cant sell my home here in ca.I have been thinking of taking the chance, and just renting it and getting out of here. Our three youngest kids are 5 year old triplet girls, and my wife does not want them starting school out here.Anyone have any advice? I am a medical construction superintendent and have built projects at just about every hospital in southern,ca.
hows the work out there?
I appreciate anyones advice or input. Thanks

There is still quite a bit of commercial construction going on in and around Nashville, and more on the board, but, of course, it has slowed down here like most parts of the country. With Nashville being a regional medical center and HCA being located here, there are a number of construction companies whose primarily business is medical construction. I work for a structural engineering firm and we design a lot of the project throughout the country.

I don't know a lot about Lafayette. It's on the very edge of what I think of as the "Nashville orbit", and sort of off the "beaten path". If you're looking for country living, Lafayette might well fit your needs, but as I'm sure you're aware, you will have to commute for job opportunities.

The area of Lafayette is in Macon County, I believe, where they are recovering from a fierce tornado that tore that place up last year. The town is small and VERY country. You may be in for a big culture shock coming from Riverside and going somewhere that "off the beaten path" but if you want small, and country living, you'll get it there. And the language will be "southern"....which is a LITTLE easier than foreign.

I feel your pain. It took us 14 months to sell our CA house. I would say go for it. If you can get a fair price on leasing out your home, I'd move. Anything to leave CA - but that's just me.

This doesn't really have anything to do with anything important...but...I thought I'd point out that for some reason Lafayette is pronounced "La-FAY-ette" with the fay rhyming with may....in TN...I don't know why we do that but I thought it might help you when you get here to know how the locals say it :-)

Thanks, thats exactly how we say it. My brother lives there about 35 minutes north of me, he's been there many years. It is a nice smaller laid back place for sure and folks are close, but work may be pretty hard to come by the way things are now. About any job is said to be a good job now as it's better than being in line with folks that can't find one. It's looking like folks may have to start planting gardens in their yards. I know I'm setting one out this year myself. The way electric bills shot up as high as house payments this past winter, we'll need to eat what we put up in the freezer if we want to have lights. Times are getting harder all around for alot of folks.

I haven't read all the responses so forgive me if I'm a repeat. I am the Nashville area
Apps Specialist for Beckman Coulter (based out of Fullerton/Brea) so I'm at a lot of hospitals all around. I can't think of many that DON'T have some kind of construction going on!

IMO, this would be a much better place to raise your 5 year old triplets. I bet they are adorable.
