La Vergne is a pretty good place, La Vergne and Murfreesboro are fairly cheap to buy in too.

Traffic on I-24 between Nashville and Murfreesboro is hell though during rush hour.

There are a lot of good condos around $150k in Woodland Pointe which backs to Percy Priest. It's a new community (developed in 2001). Good neigborhood. It has a traffic light in front of the entrace to the subdivision. There's a walking trail to the woods and after 5 minutes of walk, you will be in the man-made Percy Priest Lake where you could fish or just enjoy the scenery. The place is 10 minute drive to Nashville Intl Airport.

Also, it's an underground utility community.

You know we are looking at the possibility of renting, even if not for the long run at least for maybe a year to get a feel for the area, so suggestions on renting are also more than welcome

I would recommend that you rent for the long term. You never know what pharmacy school will bring, and it's not like you are missing out on equity appreciation in the market for the next few years.

Save all those association/condo dues and closing/purchasing costs and just rent. Especially given your price range, you can easily find a really nice place to rent and you won't be throwing money away on association dues.

We moved here a year ago and rented for the first year. The main reason was precisely to figure out where we wanted to be long term. You may find that you don't really like Nashville, but can tolerate it while she's going to school. My advice is don't tie yourself down to a mortgage payment.
