Do you mean urban North Nashville or the entire north portion of Nashville? This distinction is important as there's nothing really bad about some areas in the northern part of Davidson County like Goodlettesville, Joelton or Jordonia (save perhaps being very low-key).

There's also good areas in Germantown and Salemtown which is in North Nashville and the area is going through some rebirth like what is happening in East Nashville. I will have to say there are areas worth visiting and areas worth staying away from in every area of Nashville. If your not used to an urban environment not sure you would quite understand this. If your that worried just stick to the strip malls and big box retail centers that line the outer corridor, stay in your car as much as possible, and your chances of being a crime victim will drop tremendously, but there's a distict possibility you may die of boredom. Okay, just kidding, there's always two side of the story, just representin here...

I LOVE Germantown, those houses are SO cute & they have some great restaurants too.
Blanket statements & generalizing don't help anybody, this is not the first thread on this topic but I sincerely hope it's the last.
I personally feel sorry for people that live their lives avoiding certain areas because they are no doubt missing out on great food, great people & great culture.

Hey look,
I was wondering about specific areas within major neighborhoods, not neighborhoods themselves that I should avoid. I understand that there are good and bad parts of every neighborhood, but having not spent much time in Nashville, I wanted to get a good sense of the areas I should definitely before I visit next month. I'm wondering about specific STREETS, INTERSECTIONS, and BLOCKS. I know that, in general, North Nashville is perhaps less safe than, say, Hillsboro village, but what about the area around West and Charlotte Park? And East Nashville is obviously a great place to live, but it seems sort of hit or miss and I wanted to get a better sense of the areas to hit and the areas to miss (aside from the area directly surrounding 5-points, which is obviously a hit). And what about Inglewood? Which areas of Inglewood (east of Gallatin, mostly) are worth exploring?
I understand that my post welcomes blanket statements based soley on race and from people who really don't live in the area, but that's not why I posted it.

I would stick with North Inglewood. You might explore the area between the river (Brush Hill) and Gallatin Road and from Briley Parkway down to Greenfield or Shelton. I believe you can Google these coordinates and find the area I'm talking about. I love it over here.
For a little inside Inglewood commercial district, look to Riverside Village at Riverside and McGavock, but for living, I'd head toward the Riverwood section of Inglewood. Wave when you drive by; I'll surely be working in the yard.

Urban North Nashville. The area North of downtown and south of Briley Pwy. I don't consider Goodlettsville, Joelton, etc. North Nashville. They are all in Davidson County, but Nashville is Nashville and Joelton is Joelton, although some might consider it a suburb of Nashville. Joelton is a really nice area if you're into country living.

You'd probably want to look at West Nashville around Charlotte Pike with the same care as you would, say, East Nashville. Personally, I don't find either of those areas particularly unsafe. I completely disagree with the sweeping generalizations that would label such a major street completely bad.
For example, there's a portion of Charlotte Pike that bookends Sylvan Park. Right around the corner from where I live off of White Bridge there's a gorgeous little urban neighborhood of new custom-built homes called Patina Circle literally right off the intersection of Charlotte and White Bridge. Most folks do not even know a subdivision of $300,000+ homes is even there. Of course, a couple of blocks away there's a small village of trailers. So, the quality of the neighborhood can change swiftly from one block to another like in most other urban areas. I doubt the folks who live in my neighborhood care or feel threatened living a stone's throw from a rough patch. Otherwise, we'd choose to move elsewhere.
The further you get away from town on Charlotte the less "Southern Urban" it gets. I'd expect the area around Nashville West to start to shape up nicely too. They've just announced another small Hill Center will be built right next to Nashville West complete with another Publix.

I have some friends that live in the "The Nations" over there. Wonder if that might be the next "boom" spot around town. It perplexed me that the area hasn't undergone more revitalization by now because it's pretty close to West End, but it doesn't really have the amount of pre-war stock houses that are in Sylvan Park, East and North Nashville.

Yes, but it extends up toward north of Charlotte Road before you get to the West Meade/Bellevue area...
