Any thoughts on good vs. bad areas of "The Nations"?

I always wondered why it was called "The Nations" when the street names are all US State names...

^ Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's because there are seemingly folks first or second generation immigrants from all over the world who live in that area.

Supposedly it comes from the fact that the old prison was in that general area and people from all over, and from various backgrounds, came to live in the area to be near their loved-ones in the prison. True or not? I'm not sure.
It has been called The Nations for quite some times; it's not a new nickname.

I currently live in Nashville and am house hunting for the first time ever. I've only lived here a short while and am still unsure of the places to stay away from in East Nashville, but that is the area I'd like to stick with--unless there's another place with its type of atmosphere further out where it's less costly for housing.
Anyway, there is a home for sale on Porter that I'm very interested in.
Anyone have an opinion of that area?
It's off of trinity, near some highway interstate.
Thanks in advance!

If that is true, that sure doesn't sound like a strong foundation upon which to build a neighborhood.

Hey the state of Georgia and Australia both started out as penal colonies.

Do you know the house number on Porter Road?

Hermitage, Donelson, Green Hills, West End, Bellevue, Belle Meade, West Meade, Berry Hill, Old Hickory, Hillsboro Village, and parts of East Nashville and Inglewood (just do your homework first) -- these are all fine areas in Davidson County, and I'm sure others can add to the list.

Pimpy, I'm in 37211, and I am 1/4 of a mile from the Brentwood/Williamsom county border. The Subdivision across from us, has a Brentwood Zip, but it is in Davidson county. I have a Turnbury home, which is a Brentwood Builder.
I am not in South Nashville. I'm off Edmonson and Holt. I/4 of a mile from my house, edmonson hits the Williamson county line. Houses here are all brick, built in 2002.
