Looking for the perfect neighborhood
Hello-
I am going down for a job interview at Vandy next week and if I get the job, my fiance and I will be moving down from Minneapolis this summer. We are looking to rent in a very urban, walkable area with lots of restaurants, bars, etc. Also, if such place exists, a sort of hippie or hipster neighborhood would be great. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Carissa

Midtown/Hillsboro Village/Belmont (which are the areas surrounding Vandy) is the place for you. No kidding. Plus it's reasonably convenient to the Lower Broad/downtown area.

Parts of East Nashville are becoming "cool" (sort of . . . I still have a problem thinking of East Nashville as "hip"). I don't get over very often anymore, so I might not be the best one to offer an opinion.
Still, you have to be careful there . . . there's some areas that are starting to become really nice places from what I hear, and some that aren't.
It might depend on the price range you're looking for. East Nashville would be cheaper for the most part.

East Nashville right across the river from downtown is also a walkable area. It's also cheaper than the Hillsboro Village / Belmont neighborhood. However, there's not as much in East Nashville as in Hillsboro Village / Belmont / Midtown. Hillsboro Village is a wonderful neighborhood with dozens of shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars, including one of the most authentic French bakeries I've ever seen in this country, Provence. (Provence even imports its bread flour from France.) Hillsboro Village also has Nashville's only arthouse movie theater, the Belcourt.
But East Nashville is more affordable.

Where is the safest part of town, as we have children and schools are very important as well as safe suburbs, I am assuming we should avoid the east side then? What suburbs of Nashville are the nicest? Thanks!

No, don't assume that the East side of Nashville is an area you should avoid.
The Eastern part of Nashville is a large area. Donelson, Hermitage, Old Hickory, Inglewood, etc.

You'll love Hillsboro Village. I went to Vandy and you'll find it very convenient and hip. Lots to eat, drink and do... and very walkable. It's got that urban vibe.
Oh, wait, this is a way old thread. Never mind; you've already moved. (Hope you're loving it, wherever you landed!)
