Default Possibly relocating from Texas - Where to go???

Like I said, I may be relocating to Nashville from Texas. I lost my mom about 6 months ago and with everything else that has been going on I could use a fresh start. The thing is that I have NO idea where to go in the Nashville area. I'm a 26 year old single guy looking to probably rent a house or an apartment. I don't want to be in the middle of the city but I don't wanna be far from everything that's goin on. Hope that makes sense. Haha. Maybe in a part of town where I could meet other singles around my age. Thanks so much for your answers in advance.

First off, I'm so sorry you lost your mom. Hopefully this move will be part of your healing process.

There are lots of fun neighborhoods within Nashville you might like. 12 South, East Nashville, or Hillsboro Village to name a few.

Good luck!

I had the chance to relocate to Texas last month and my wife and I passed hoping the economy would pick up a little bit here...

In that time...

I believe in between Dell, Bridgestone, The Tennessean, Metro Schools/Police/Fire Departments/Schools and MTSU there have been about what ? 1,200-2,000 more people laid off ?

There were over what ? 600 people that showed up for 60 jobs at the Zoo to be a food service worker ?

I wish to god that we had a chance to change history, We'd be Texans right now.

Welcome to Nashville.

I'll remain respectful of others' opinions, but know that there are plenty of people here, myself included, who think the economy is nowhere near as bad as some make it out to be.

Are there less high-paying jobs floating around out there than in 2005? Probably. But I know several people who have moved to Nashville since this "recession" began who have had no trouble finding work. These people were educated, qualified, and determined. If you meet those criteria, you shouldn't have any trouble, either.

Good luck with your move and welcome to Nashville.

Welcome to Nashville.
All I have to say is that the days of Texas being not so hurt economically are over. It's hitting us over the head now. Our ace in the hole is still energy, including wind turbines, which means Houston is still well positioned for energy consolidation activity, but the decrease in energy related activity is very pronounced.

Yeah, We know, You're " recession proof ", Hate Davidson County also known to you as the ghetto, and diversity of any kind.

Yes, people with 4 year degrees can find a job somewhere around Nashville but the basic run of the mill, blue collar type worker cannot find work right now. I was told tonight by the manager of Subway in the Hendersonville Walmart that they start off at $5.50 but that they were out of applications because over 50 people had already applied ( for one position. )

I never thought I'd have to do it but I've been back and forth meeting with Army recruiters in Madison. It may be my only choice.

I'm glad you're good and can continue to tell people that ARE participating in the recession that everything is find and well. Let's hope YOU don't lose your job.

Now I know you're lying. Minimum wage is $6.55. Try Fuji's Japanese Steak House, and you're welcome for the lead.

No offense to anybody but if you want to talk about the economy and recession then start another thread about it and stay on topic here. I didn't ask anything at all about the economy, I asked where would be a good place for a mid 20's single guy to live at around Nashville. I'd appreciate it if y'all would keep it along those lines.
Thanks.

I don't want to talk about the economy or the recession any more than you do but there are certain posters here (one in particular) who make it a point to complain about it in every thread. I just wanted to make sure you -- and anyone else considering moving here -- weren't scared off by the false impression that there is no work here.

As for places to live, akm4 gave you some great suggestions. If you want to be a little further out from the hustle and bustle but still within a quick commute to downtown, also look at Bellevue, Hermitage, Hendersonville, and the Cool Springs area.
