Can you live comfortable in Nashville making about $22.00/hr and where is the best place to look for a house in my price range.

Well it depends on how much debt you have, but yes you can live fairly comfortably at $40k/year. Are you single?
What area do you work? What is your price range?

You can probably scratch Brentwood off your list, but there are tons of places in the Nashville area where you and your family can live very comfortably. With those jobs, you should each be making at least $20/hour which would make your combined annual income over $83,000. That is a conservative estimate. Many RN's and electricians around here make much more than that.

Since you have three kids whom I assume you want in good schools, my advice is to scratch Davidson County off your list. Look in Sumner and in Wilson County -- specifically Hendersonville and Mt. Juliet. You should be able to find a decent home in either place at a price you can afford.

Though I live in Murfreesboro, I make just over half that and I live in reasonable comfort, and own a house. I'm single with no children, though.

My definition of "comfortable" income is different from "livable" income. I would say livable is ability to take care of basic things : housing, health insurance, education, clothing and food plus minimal savings (say around $500/month). For a single pax, $45k is livable, 60k for couple, 75k for couple with up to 2 kids, 90K for couple with 3-4kids

(I have another layer which I would call Easy living which is livable income + additional savings. For this I would add $15k on top of livable income)

Comfortable I would define as livable + additional savings + recreation. I will budget additional $30k for this and put that on top of the livable income.
