My girlfriend and some other ladies are looking into a place for rent on Forrest Ave right near 5 points. We're both reasonably new to the area, and have heard a lot of negative press about East Nashville. We know that the tornado from 98(?) has caused somewhat of a revival, and has taken away a lot of the crime as some money has moved in and refurbished many of the classic homes out that way. We know crime is everywhere, but I was wondering if anyone could give some insight to the immediate area near Forrest, and perhaps give some areas not to go (we love to drive around and explore...ideally) within the bigger scope of East Nashville as a whole. I've heard those apt. complexes south of Shelby Ave are some of the worst areas of Nashville, and it doesn't appear to be too far from Forrest. So anyway--your ideas? Opinions? Extra-voluntary information? Thank you so much.

The apts off Shelby aren't that far away, but are in a different universe so I wouldn't give them much worry. Surely common sense will keep you away from there. I've spent lots of time around Forrest. It's wonderful, active street near most things that make East Nashville special. Forrest is a good one for sure.

Default Forrest near five points

This is a great part of East Nashville and I can highly recommend it.

The thing that would concern me the most would be how noisy it will be. If you are very close to 5 points, you are going to have to deal with all the crowds that the area attracts and the noise.

Since you mention crime, I will say that commercial districts ALWAYS (everywhere) attract more crime than residential ones.

For both of these reasons, ideally, I would want to have just a few blocks buffer zone from Five Points. A nice short walk. Say something East of 14th Street.

That said, I still think it would be great to live on Forrest, even in the more busy 1100 block.

Thank you both for your responses, I really appreciate it. I'm probably going to take a bit of a drive up that way sometime this weekend and see how I feel. My girlfriend loves it so she may be sold already regardless of what I say.
